Downloading TV Shows
Is the RIAA against that too? I mean, isn't it the same as taping a TV show on a tape and watching it later, if you miss it? Just a curious question.

No I think the MPAA goes after movies/TV shows DLers.. There are other organizations but they arent as aggressive as RIAA is.

There is something called "home use." It means you can record music from the radio and shows on tv, but you can only show them in your own home. You can't distribute them. Then there is "fair use" which says you can copy your own cd's but you can't distribute them. And right now dvd's are on the fuzzy edge of the fair use thing - they are encrypted.

Pretty much if you DL than no it is not legal, but if you record it yourself and only watch it in your home and dont charge people or distribute it than you are fine.
Cause TEchnically if you DL it its not your copy it is someone else and you are watching distributed material same goes for Mp3's etc... Yes you can make the case for CD's that i own the original and from there it gets fuzzy

I know, being that I'm at a college campus, and I'm on their network, I'm worried they'll get suspicious for downloading a ton, and then uploading too, cuz that's just the way BT works. It's a shame, cuz on a good day, I can get almost a meg a second.

Well, as far as TV shows go, I don't think there will ever be a huge crackdown like there was in the music industry. Not unless some kind of super speed internet connection comes along and goes mainstream where EVERYONE can upload/download at 1mb per second. Right now, for the average user, it takes hours to download tv shows and movies on services like KaZaA.
*edit* On that note, I would love a programmer to come out with a KaZaA variant that masks IP address over a range of computers. For example, if I click to download a file, it would appear that it's comming from someone who might not directly have the file, they just route the data to me. This way, the ******* at the RIAA couldn't track people down. Don't get me wrong, I know it would still be POSSIBLE, but because they would have to gain access to someones system that wouldn't be directly involved, it would make it much more challenging for them legally.
