I have a network with only 2 PCs at home - one running WinXP, the other Win98SE - using a Linksys BEFSR41 4-port switch/router. Everything was working fine until i realised the XP machine was using a 10Mbps card. So I bought a 100Mbps one - the same one being used by the Win98SE PC, but it refuses to work.
Both cards work in the Win98SE machine, but on my WinXP PC they refuse to get an IP address from the router (DHCP server). I have tried releasing and renewing but it always gets an Autocofiguration IP starting with '169.'!!! When I switch back to the old 10Mbps NIC it works fine again
!!!
The cabling is all fine because it worked before. Also, all the correct lights on the router are on - indicating it detects the PCs connected to it - the new card just doesn't get an IP address. I have even tried setting a static IP - no luck
I have contacted Linksys tech support but can't resolve the issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks
