Hourly Long Log Offs, with DI614+ Help?

    Hey guys,

I'm behind a DLink DI-614+ wireless router here, and I can't seem to stay logged on AIM for more than an hour at a time, everytime. It restarts. I'm sure it has something to do with the router. Any ideas? I don't think I'm losing connection to the internet or anything, but any suggestions? Thx in advance.

I think DLink has a number of issues with timing out idle sessions. Will it disconnect you while you are messaging/using AIM or is it always after a short period of inactivity?

While I don't think you can change this on the router (except maybe an older firmware rev., or a new router), you can try this reghack to decrease/modify the AIM KeepAlive value:

    Modified from http://www.aol.com/aim/faq/connection.html

To modify the registry key, follow these steps:
    1. Exit AIM.
    2. From the Start menu, launch regedit from the Run dialog box.
    3. Browse to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\America Online\AOL Instant Messenger (TM)\CurrentVersion\Misc
    4. On the right side of the screen, double-click on KeepAlive. An "Edit DWORD Value" dialog will appear.
    5. Change the content of the "Value data" field to the new value.
    6. Click on OK.
    7. Exit the Registry Editor.
    Stuff and stuff

Thanks for the reply - I'll give that a try when I get back to my place. In the meantime, are there any other ideas?

HTH. Still wondering though, does it disconnect you while you are using it or only after idle periods?

    There is no keepalive option.
