I just got Star Trek Elite Force II. First off I have a bias, I really enjoyed the first game. An FPS in the ST universe just "hit the spot" for me.

I have only played the first three missions so far, so my opinion on some things might change.

Graphics wise EFII is good, but not great. After Unreal 2 and NOLF 2 raised the bar, a Quake 3 based game looks, well old. They have squeezed as much out of the engine as possible, but it still isn't up to the amazing graphics of U2 or NOLF2.

The sound is good, ambient sounds are convincing and add to the experience. The music is non-obtrusive. The voice acting has been above average, using ST Cast members for their characters. Picard looks and sounds like Picard, which helps the game feel like Star Trek.

Levels have been well made so far, the initial Borg ship was a great improvement over the Borg ships in the first game. Looking out a window shows the ship and the space around it, and traversing the ship is logical, the paths actually follow the physical structure of the ship. The puzzles have been simple, with the focus on action rather than mindless jumping puzzles or monotonous "find the key" routines.

Weapons, just nothing new so far. Exactly the same as the first game. Perhaps further on they'll introduce something new.

Story, EFII has an intricate story line involving the bureaucratic nature of Starfleet in the first missions and the impact on the Hazard Team. As with the first it appears that this is a very story driven game. The writing appears top notch. It is very much a Star Trek story.

AI, well so far it borders on awful. The Borg are supposed to be stupid, so their lack of AI is forgivable. But the Borg "Boss" is not as forgivable, simply circling any object easily defeats him, as he is programmed to track you and has no subroutines taking into account environmental variables. Then when fighting the Romulans you find that they too are completely stupid. At least they duck behind crates, but they fail to track in an intelligent manner. After the clever and deadly enemies in Soldier of Fortune 2, the brain dead AI in EFII is disappointing.

Over all I like the game, but it still has some flaws.

Anyone else played this? What are your thoughts?
