Radeon 9800 Question
I was thinking about getting a Radeon 9800. I was going to flash the BIOS and make it a PRO and o/c it pretty high. I was wondering the dangers of not flashing it right or about o/cing it when it's a PRO and heating issues. And if there is risks should I just spend the extra 50-100 bucks on the PRO? Thanks guys.

I would say flashing it and overclocking it is very acceptable have done it 3 times myself but I wouldn't leave it overclocked... If you flash the bios leave it at 9800pro stock speeds cause anything more is a little bit too hot in my opinion.

Thanks. Also is there a program that can tell you your video card temp? Or do you just feel your card after you play like UT2003 o/c?

The only way that i know of to check VC temps is to mount a temp sensor. I have never seen any programs. Sorry

flash BIOS woes
I would say flashing it and overclocking it is very acceptable have done it 3 times myself
Then you're just the person I want to talk to, AMDhyp!
I just got in a 9800nP the other day. The problem is: I've DL'ed the 98-8004.BIN, DOS4GW.exe, flashrom.exe files on one diskette, and from bootdisk.com I have the 6.22 ver. on a separate diskette. But when I'm at the a: prompt, first of all I can't save the original BIOS. I type "flashrom -s 0 original.bin", but I get the "bad command or file name" error.
Then I swap disks and enter "flashrom -p 0 98-8004.BIN" and it says "error loading flashrom.rom" I've re-copied and re-tried it several times, but I'm stumped as to why in DOS it won't read the flashrom file. It's reading the DOS4GW, but that's all.
Do I have the wrong ver. of a boot disk, or flashrom?
Any suggestions? HELP!

Have you tried using the atiflash instead of flashrom?

odd, you could try a dos 7 boot disk like a 98 setup disk. that's what i used and it worked fine.

Have you tried re-DLing? And Chuck's advice is good too.

Yeah, I've never used flashrom, but atiflahs has been good to me so I haven't had to.

No, haven't used atiflash yet - where do I get it?
Also, I guess I'll have to try some other boot disk file, cuz this one isn't working well.
As I said above, I tried re-DLing the files, re-formatting the 3.5"s, etc. But same problem.

Make a boot disk from WindowsXP works fine for me. ATiflahs can be found at 3dchipset.com.
