Carmageddon 2 over TCP/IP
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get Carmageddon 2 to work over a local network while running Windows 2000/XP?
Carmageddon 2 is a good multiplayer car-battle game that I used to enjoy playing at LAN parties. However, now that most people have Win2k/XP, Carmageddon 2 does not work over the network. Even though the game does load and play fine in single player, it cannot connect due to the fact that the IPX protocol isn't commonly installed anymore. Since the game only supports using IPX/SPX, naturally the answer would be to install IPX on all of the computers. Well, we did this and it still doesn't appear to work.
My thoughts: Either Carmageddon 2 doesnt use the same IPX protocol as Windows XP IPX uses or a setting is wrong (we tried forcing the frame type to 802.3).
Possible solutions:
- Modified settings...ok what settings?
- A program designed to allow IPX tunneling over TCP/IP
- A VPN
P.S. Carmageddon TDR sucks. Please do not suggest it as it is buggy and has gameplay far worse than C2 does even when it doesnt work. The only thing good about TDR is its higher resolution support.

Your problem on WinXP is that WinXP has a firewall setup on the network connections. The person hosting the game probably has that enabled and it's blocking all requests to join the game or even see the game. I had the same problem with Counter Strike when I first ran it on WinXP.
This only has to be done on the host of the game:
To remove this feature simply right click my network places click properties, right click the network connection you are using for this and click properties again. Finally go to advanced and Uncheck the box that reads "internet connection firewall." One more thing, if the game uses IPX and only IPX you will need to install that on all machines that are going to be playing the LAN game. Hope that helps..

For one, firewalls dont block IPX traffic. For two, I said I installed IPX. For 3, I said this didnt work on Windows 2000 either.
And AFAIK, no firewalls were set up anyways.

Calm down.. It's ok. I was just trying to help, but I guess it wasn't wanted.

Solution IPX on Windows XP Carmageddon 2
Install IPX protocol with default values.
Then start regedit and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\NwlnkIpx\Pa rameters
Change DWORD value SocketUniqueness into 20 (hexadecimal)
Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\NwlnkIpx\Pa rameters\Adapte rs\{your adapter}
Change DWORD value MaxPktSize into 10 (hexadecimal)
You have to do this on every computer you want to play hosted Carmageddon 2 games with.
We had the same problem. After spending a few hours on the problem I made a few guys here very happy. Hope it helps you

We used to do this also. I always liked splat pack better. It was the closest to deathrace 2000 as you can get. 2 seemed more like twisted metal then carmageddon. I've heard rumors they are working on another carmageddon. Anyone hear anything?

I've only heard rumors, but I hope it is true. Did you ever try carmageddon splat pack? It was not as good graphically, but I thought it was better.

Regedit trick did not do the job I tried on several Carma2 versions: simple, advanced, US/UK)..
Has this ever worked to anyone? I am using Ethernet P2P crossover cable.
Has anyone tried the c2o (Carmageddon 2 Online) project? I cannot use it because c2o_server writes "file hash was not found"..
Project seems to be dead for last months, but files can be downloaded and tried from:

Anyone please reply on results; thanks huge!
