How do you send a fax?

I've got a modem, I've got a scanner, how do I send a fax? I tried using M$ word's fax wizard but that just screwed up my phone lines. Is there a program that I need to use?

    This is for Windows 2000.

you might have to choose the fax modem as your printer in the application you're using (MS Word, for ex., or image program if it's a file from the scanner, etc.). when you print, the fax software then kicks in and sets up the document for faxing, lets you choose the cover sheet, add notes, choose phone number, etc. it's handled a bit differently depending on the fax program, but usually it's pretty self-explanatory once you get into the fax program. i'm pretty sure win2k has a default faxer, make sure the right services are enabled, though.

    Dial -up

You didn't say if you were on a dial-up modem at the time of the FAX.
You can't be on-line on the internet at the same time if you are using a dial-up modem.
The Phone line has to be Free for the Fax to use it.

Yeah, I did but I think the software is screwed up somehow. I installed Winfax from symantec and it tries to load it when I send a fax (by using the print queque) only it keeps sending out stuff without letting me choosing where to send it. It does for until I cancel the program.
