    winamp

i dont know how i forgot this, but it is driving me nuts.

i just reinstalled winamp, and the first thing i did was uncheck all video formats when under file association. yet, when i add a directory(that contains mpgs and avis) it still loads, and plays, the video files. how do i stop winamp from loading the video files? i am pretty sure i had it this way before.

    thanks!

edit: nevermind, i got it figured out.

Anyone know what the best version of Winamp is right now? I am still using version 2.80 which i really like but lately alot of the songs that i have downloaded dont work right. they start off playing correctly but after a few seconds they get really distorted and make a loud annoying sound. I was wondering if upgrading to the latest version of Winamp would fix this?

That didn't fix it. I installed the latest version of Winamp3 and I'm still having the same problem. I will try redownloading the song and see if that helps. Just curious if anyone else was having the same problem with any songs they download. I've had it happen a quite a few times.

Mike00: Are you sure the songs are just no damaged? Try playing it in Windows Media Also try updating your sound card drivers

Bromide: Why not go back to a prior version before the video crap they added? I dont have any AVI/MPEG in my MP3 section so I dont run into the same problem... So why not just go back to an older version.. I believe pre 2.90 where the video was no part of the release Or install the Basic version which might not have the video features... Or try a minimal install and deselect the video features...

I downloaded the same song a few more times but am still having the same problem. I even tried playing the songs in Media Player and instead of the song distorting after a few seconds, it just stops. All my other .mp3's work fine but lately I have been having trouble finding good ones.

Hi Colossus, thanks for the help buddy. I did try Media Player and no luck. I am downloading a bunch more of the same song to see if that helps. They are all different file sizes so I'm sure not to get the same file i already tried. About my sound card drivers. Does Creative update these drivers still? I haven't updated them in a long time but it's kind of an old card. What do you think?

Wow, this is really tedious. I actually thought I found a song that worked. I made it 15 seconds into the song and then it started up again with the static and scratching noise. Can there really be this many corrupt files out there? I really miss the good old days of Napster.

From what I hear Kazaa is not doing so well with the files.. So it might be bad files.. I dunno.. I also dont know what P2P you are using to download them...

Do you older files play fine? If so then I would be more inclined to blame the new files being bad....

btw, this is exactly why i have kept v.2.80 for so long. ever since the video features were added, winamp never worked as well for me.

I think you are exactly right Colossus. I am using Kazaa and I am 99% sure that all these files are bad. I wonder if the RIAA has a hand in this? hehe All my countless other .mp3's work perfect so I will just keep downloading until I find a song that works.

For winamp 2, the latest version is the 2.95 I believe.

I am still having alot of problems finding .mp3's on KaZaA that aren't corrupt. What p2p program should I try next?

Also, Why does the latest version of Winamp take a second or two to load when I execute it? Version 2.80 would start playing the song instantly when I double clicked on the song.
