    12V ATX adapter for AMD Board?

    anyone know where you can get them? i'm not sure my PSU has one, it's a 550watt P4 power supply but i think it came out before the new 4 pin connector became standard...
    looks like this i found it for a P4 board, is it the exact same for the AMD boards or?

    Edit:I guess if it will work on a Intel MB, it would work on a AMD MB.

    i mean, are the connectors the same, and will the rails from the molex connector line up with where the correct ones for the AMD female connector go? know what i mean?

    AMD boards just use the standard ATX connector. So power supplies will read something like "ATX PSU" or "P4 Compatible ATX PSU." Either will work fine on an AMD.

    u sure? whats the extra 4 pin connector next to the 20 pin connector?

    that is an excellent question...because I looked through about 8 motherboards all with the same chipset and Soltek and DFI "LAN Party" are the only ones that use it (between Soltek, Asus, Abit, MSI, DFI, DFI LAN, Shuttle, EPoX) my GUESS, is that its for when we see those more power hungry 400Mhz FSB processors that AMD is supposedly going to keep in the socket 462 pin out.

    Could you elaborate on these "more power hungry processors" or at least give a link?

    Hmmm...

    Well if memory serves me properly...Right about the time that Intel went with its 400 FSB Pentium 4 (Williamette) was when we say the P4 4 prong aux power plug on Intel Motherboards, and Intel has used it ever since. This came about IMO from the P4 having a power draw that was in excess of what was being supplied by the ATX connector (something like 90 watts).

    Well now AMD is supposed to be eventually shipping a Barton cored AthlonXP (I believe the 3500+) that supposed to debut the 400MHz FSB. And this beast in theory would be power hungry enough to require its own Auxilirary 12v source. Now since Intel has already been doing this for 2 years there really isnt any point in designing a whole new socket so they would just use the same format for theirs (4 prong box 2x12v 2xGround) to power the newer processors.

    I have an AMD MB (Gigabyte) that uses the ATX-12V connector, it is the same as the one on the P4 boards.

    so using one of those P4 adapters will work on the board? i think i remember the connector on the P4 board has 3.3 volts and a 12 volt lead into it, and the athlon board uses two 12v and 2 grounds...anyone know the deal?

    nah...if you look at the connector that you posted...its 2 yellow (12v) and 2 black (ground) so there is no 3.3 involved. There should be no issues what so ever.

    cool, ill see if fry's has one, just didnt want to hook it up and blow the board
