The Medieval Mod
I would like to thank everyone for their advice on my new computer
I have gained a lot of computer knowledge through-out the years of reading SF (hardware, software, trouble-shoot,OS, etc). Many people have helped me indirectlly or directlly with their ideas, comments and suggestions. Not many agreed with some purchases I made, but they work great!
This past Saturday I finally got my new computer from newegg.
Enough blah, blah, on with the good stuff
Old computer (I will this at my parent's office)
generic case with generic 250W psu
Pentium 3 750
Kingston 512pc133
Asus TUSL2-C
Ati Radeon 8500LE
30GB & 40GB Maxtor hdd
Viewsonic 19" PF790
Creative SB Live!
New computer
Antec PLUS1080AMG with 430W psu
Athlon XP 2500+ (my first AMD chip)
Kingston HyperX 2700 512x2
Epox 8RDA3+ rev2.0 (nobody seems to like this board )
Tyan 9600 Pro (same clock speed as retail)
Western Digital 120GB 8MB 7,200rpm
Thermaltake Smartfan II
Thermalright SLK-800A
LOGITECH Z-640 speakers
Pioneer DVD+/-RW (cost me $30 )
bought 2 antec 80mm case fans
The only sad thing about this is, I can't use my 19" becuase it won't fit in my computer desk.
So far I have tested 3dmark 2001/03, UT2k3 and used Hotcpu for benchmark/stress applications.
3dmark 2001 = 11,400~ (tested for the fun of it)
3dmark 03 = 3300
UT2k3 = I don't know how to run the benchmarks so I played a while.
1024*768 with max details, AAx8 and AF x16 (or was it the other way around..) I got on average 50fps. UT looks GREAT!!!!
now for OC results. My 2500+ (1.83Ghz) as of yesterday presented no problems at 3200+ (2.2Ghz) speeds with no problem. The ram on ther other hand didn't like the jump from 166 to 200, haven't tried anything in the middle though. The computer won't even post, I had to remove the battery to boot with default settings.
I'm so happy with this purchase

I had a Plextor CDRW that I bought at Bestbuy I also bought their extended warranty (Service Plan) for 3 years. The cdrw wouldn't burn anymore, only read cds. So when I arrived at BB, and after some minutes the rep told me to get anything I wanted. There was the Plextor CDRW premium for $115 and other 'normal' cdrw for $70ish. Becuase I had originallly bought my burner in January 2000, the cost was $200. So if I choosed anything less, I would 'lose' the price difference, so instead I payed $30 more for the DVD -/+ RW
