    Windows gains more control

So, ever feel like Windows has worked its way into every last corner of the OS? Well, good news! Now, Windows will tie in with your BIOS too. Great. Sure, it's all in the name of enhanced security, but their track record there isn't exactly stellar. But to help DRM....

Windows is the OS; I sure hope it has control. Agreed, if it isn't secure, then control is bad. But if you are looking for secure, then BIOS sounds like a viable direction to go. Of course, you could always use a different OS that is more secure.

However, I would think a good Windows VM running on top of another OS would be MUCH more secure. Unfortunately, VM performance (especially in DirectX/OpenGL) is not desirable and there are no Windows VMs in any OS worth the average user's time to get working. Virtual PC comes to mind as the closest solution.

Hmm... I don't think I like the idea of windows integration in hardware.

In a sense, Windows has always provided drivers and conformed to hardware. Now it seems that Microsoft is looking for hardware to conform to Windows.

    Apple anyone?

I used to own a nice tower, but then it was too expensive to upgrade consistently. And I only play Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors DEATHMATCH. And that doesn't need a lot of power (PM me if you want to get in some games). So now I own a MacBook, but I like to think of myself as a well-informed Apple convert who still uses Windows sometimes.
I like the internet. So I have this www.tarentinos.com for wallpapers that I make since it is a strange obsession of mine. How wonderful.

Microsoft is going too far. While I use WinXP as my os, I don't want MS to screw with my BIOS settings. There has to be a limit to MS's control over ones computer.

Yeah. I recall the Win3.1 and Win95 days when everyone complained that Windows wasn't a real OS because it ran on top of DOS. Personally, I liked that setup better - much more like X windows and UNIX. If we had a modern DOS that understood things like NTFS, USB, etc., I'd be happy with Windows sitting on top of it. MS didn't go down that road though, and seems they're continuing to move away.
