Um actually not they are not. Sony leases their Trinitron tube technology to multiple companies. Namely NEC/Mitsubshi.... Their "Diamondtron" is a Trinitron... Its not made by sony though.... It just uses the exact same technology that Sony's do, hence why NEC has to pay Sony royalties for all their CRTs sold. So dont give me bs about Sony makes everyones monitors???? [sarcasm]Yeah Im sure Sony makes NEC's flat CRTs for them and even boxes them up in NEC boxes.[/sarcasm] No Dell nor IBM make their own CRTs. Neither do they make their own Mobos. But Intel doesnt make all the Intel chipset mobos that Dell and IBM sell.... Its all done by OEM manufacturers....

And you obviously havent had a Dell trinitron side by side next to a G500 or a G400....
Lets say we were in magic land and Sony felt like being nice and made everyones monitors... Then the tube that sony puts in the P1110 would be something of less quality than a CPD-E500, not even a CPD-G500.

    Direct from Dells spec page:
    "Highest addressable resolution* 1800 x 1440 at 75 Hz
    * Addressable means the monitor will sync up to this mode. However, Dell does not guarantee the image will be sized and centered correctly."
    http://support.ap.dell.com/docs/moni...0/En/specs.htm

Direct from Sonys PDF spec page for the CPD-E500:
    "Maximum Resolution:
    2048x1536@65hz."
    http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/...cs/cpde500.pdf

And thats not "Highest addressable resolution." I've run a E500 at 2048x1536@65hz for days on end without any problems, perfectly clear text. Course any refresh rate below 75hz kills my eyes but thats not really the point...

But hey I could be totally wrong. I just got my info from Sony tech reps who could have been talking out of their ***. If so I appologize and I'd eat my words, only if you gave me some kind of proof though. Proof that Sony has some huge plant in China that distributes every flat CRT in the world...

I don't quite understand what you guys are talking about.

If I run my current monitor (viewsonic a70f+ 17") 1hz above 60hz at 1280x1024, the screen shuts down to protect itself.

Do these trinitrons not shut down when they are running over their rated specs?

I use to have a Mag 19". I ran it at 1600 x 1200 85hz... everything looked normal and all. A week or so later, it refused to turn on, I bought this viewsonic as a replacement.

What i'm trying to get at is, maybe Tbird can run at his dell p1110 at 2048x1536 75hz... but will it die like my poor poor mag?

Hehe, I returned the 3 year old monitor to Costco. They couldn't find any listing of my Mag monitor listed in their inventory... so they found something that was as close as possible. I got $450 back by returning the broken 19" Mag which costed me $180 when i bought it My mom spent that money on groceries and I didn't get a penny

my monitor shuts down when I run the refresh rate too high, but 75Hz it the max for 2048x1536. 95Hz for 1600x1200 as for your mom, at least I hope she fed you well

HRmmmm well dont know what to tell you.... I dont have access to a p1110 any more so I cant try that. I was pretty sure I didnt have the options though when I had "hide modes that this monitor cannot display" checked.

All I know is when having a P1110 and a G500 next to each other at 1600x1200@85hz it was obvious they were different quality. Not so much on games, but on Photoshop and Text.
