Fan on video card making a clicking noise....Need suggestions
I have got a geforce 4 ti4200 that is about 4 months old and the fan is now clicking on it... i know i can try and lube it up with some 3 in 1 oil or the like but i would also like to know, if i don't overclock this baby would i be safe to unplugg the fan? or should i just get and after market heatsink and try and overclock it a little more... all in all i would like to unplugg the thing b/c even though the fan is small it sure is a noisy little bastard...
Thanx for the help

You could always just replace the fan.

The answer is, you can't. The fan, while being about the same size as a 40mm fan, doesn't have the surrounding cage and actually sits almost inside the heatsink for lack of a better way to describe it. I wanted to quiet my system down, so I bought a PC Toys heatpipe heatsink from CompUSA. This is nothing more than a re-badge Tt product, and it works just like it should. It won't have any problems handling that Ti4200. It handles my 4400 o/c to 305/610.

most local computer shops will have little chipset fans as well, which may be what you're looking for (fan sizes on video cards vary). My favorite is to cannibalize the heatsink from an old amd 450-900 or so and epoxy that baby and a nice 60mm fan onto the vid card.
