I play BF1942 at 1024x768 with quincunx just fine, the gameplay never slows down. Yeah you wanna play tomb raider get a 9800Pro, you wanna play 1600x1200 with all the AA glory (at that res AA is not THAT much better anyway), get a 9800Pro. So in market terms we are talking what 2-4% (dont know just guessing) of people worldwide that will have these kind of power cards. So all the rest of us can continue playing the games, which most of us play, and last time I checked they mostly are dx8.1 downwards anyway, on our so called "outdated, rubbish, obsolete" cards

Hell, if most people are really honest, they would admit that they just buy these cards because they are addicted to the newest and best (been there, done that), even if the actual software they were meant to be played with is not even out yet or consists of yet another part in a series that really is getting old (even though the main character has got some big boobs) Actually this applies to most other components as well.

I'm not bothered about having the newest and best I'm more than happy with this year old 9700 pro. Why's that? Not because it was the newest or the best at the time, but because I could play games faster and with AA/AF, making them look much better, a good step on from the previous GF4ti card.

Comparing the 4200 and the 9600 pro is like comparing a toyota tercel to a V6 lexus - sure, if you strip the tercel to a drivers seat on a metal frame, remove the hood and trunk cover, and take out the glass, you might get the same 0-60 time as the lexus. But the lexus will do it easily and in much greater comfort.

The 4200 will get you the same frame rate if you don't want your games to look nice and you only play older games, but if you want the card that can do it easily, without having to turn off all the options, get the 9600 pro.
One by one, the penguins are stealing my sanity.
