Thumbs down Possible bug with Cat 3.8...

That would most certainly suck, though I find it just a tad bit hard to believe.

    Just a heads up.

*edit-hehe, you probably should look at this link to understand.*

    Unhappy

What bug are you talking about?

I use the 3.8 before, it wasn't as good as the Omegas...

I have a thermal probe sitting against the core block on my GiantII, my temps haven't changed with these drivers.

/me calls bs. I haven't noticed anything on either of the two cards here. Granted I don't have a temp probe, but I would think that big of an increase in heat would cause artifacting in games and/or crashes, I'm seeing neither. Plus the card feels no hotter than usual than when using the 3.7's.

Thanks for the heads up anyway.

(plus the guy is Canadian, and that just makes him wrong by defualt... j/k )

I went ahead and went back to the 3.7's. It's not just this one guy, loads of people have confirmed it now. Theres a therad over at Rage3D as well as Futurmark's forums. I figured I may as well play it safe (theres no reason to use the 3.8's the way I see it, they add absolutely nothing new; that I can use anyway).

Apparently several peoples cards have died since going up to the 3.8's, and the temp tends to go up by atleast 10*C on the core. Hopefully we'll find out in a few days if CatalystMaker can confirm it or not, or if they are just going to ignore it. Either way, I'm playing it safe for now.

Hmmm, I should have charged an admission for this info. People can spend $400 or so on a card can surely afford to spend a few bucks for valuable information leading to its propsperity...

How could this get past QA. Surely, one of their testers would have to have been affected.

that is what i have been wondering....do they even look at temps when they are testing drivers? perhaps they only look at the stability/software side of things...
