    Northbridge fan

The NB fan on my new gigabyte mobo quits after compstart.
Is this normal or should I stop using the computer?

Sounds like the fan died. Just replace it with another small 40mm fan and you're back in business.

I don't know of any NB fans that can adjust their speed depending on the NB's temp, so I'd say it's dead.

Also, try plugging it into a different fan header in the mobo. Maybe the one it's plugged into died somehow.

The fan is still good, after a reboot it spins up again and always stops at the same time.

Does it make any noises? Try plugging it into a different fan header on the mobo.

Who cares, most (all) motherboards will operate just fine without a fan on the northbridge. But, you should be able to replace it with any 40mm fan.

If you remove the fan- peel back the sticker thing and put a couple of drops of oil on the shaft I suspect it will be as good as new.
    But then I'm a cheapskate.
