Can anyone link me to a 24" CRT with 4:3 ratio, I might want one of those!

And even with the best HDTV you can get the highest 4:3 resolution you can display will be like 1280x1080i. All of the true HDTV signals like 1080i and 720p are all widescreen. If you have a 4:3 TV that can handle those and you give it one of those resolutions it will force it to widescreen. Not to mention the Tubes that can take those resolutions and display then natively are usually quite large, like 30"s or larger

HAHAHAHAHA... this thread is hilarious, 300 for a used 24 incher that doesn't even exist. Great, especially since 300 is what you pay for a .24 trinitron in A grade shape at merkortech.com... and that's a 21 incher. Good luck finding one, you'd do better by buying a 42" plasma and hooking it up.

I paid $230 for my 21" and I can get em for like $150 now so I figure twice the cost should get me a used 24" Its only 3 inches bigger, not a mile

and why would they not have a 4:3 24" this is dumb there has to be one somewhere man and screw a 30" monitor unless it has .24 or better AG pitch

They probably don't make 24" 4:3 monitors because anything over 21" is pretty much useless as far as desktop goes. Unless of course you're doing CAD work (where a 24" widescreen would come in handy). A 24" 4:3 probably isn't even 3" more. My bet would be something like an extra 1/2" on each side, the rest would just be a sales pitch, like the 22" monitors.

You'd be better off getting an HDTV and just using it as a monitor and sitting far away from it

Or get one of those Sony projectors :drools: Or you know, if you were really about IQ you could always get rid of that Ti4200 and get a 9800 (great IQ).

t-bird, your super badass top of the line ti4200 should upgrade your monitor to a 24" by just plugging in the VGA cable! with overclocking your looking at a 30", no telling what your gonna pull with some gpu cooling.

That company is highly reliable and efficient. I have ordered all my monitors there with absolutely no problem. THey are just like merkortech, except NOT SHADY AS ****! I even got a grade-b one time for budget constraints and the only thing wrong was a big black scratch on the back of the case which I dont even see while typing. Anyways, check out the link.

you were the most helpful of them all who posted here. This is sure a nice new monitor and at below $600 its not too bad. unfortunately, Supports resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 at 76Hz (16:10 mode). widescreen is ok for 2-d such as surfing the web since I can have two open webpages side by side but its not for gaming as it would look disorted in 4:3 ratios. Maybe I can see if Sony will make a 4:3 24" for $600 and once I save up that money(screw a radeon9800pro) ill buy their freshly built 24" oh and it must do 1600x1200 at 100Hz and 2048x1536 at 75Hz or better. man surfing the web at 1600x1200 at 100Hz on a 4:3 24" with a .24 trinitron flat CRT would be my dream, id gladly pay $600 for a new one, less for a used one. even if it means that instead of an a64 rig, be it. If they can even make a BIGGER crt like 27" I may pay a grand for it! seriously!

Thats just Sony's older version of the GDM-FW900.... Its not flatscreen and its about 4 years old. You can find tons of the sun versions on ebay. Just like the older one its widescreen, not 4:3

Yeah but the highest resolution I have ever seen a 4:3 hdtv in is 1280x1080i, course I havent messed with too many of em. Its not an official HDTV signal because if it was it would lock to 16x9. If a HDTV can take 1080i then about 90% of the time you can give it 1280x1080 at 1080i timings and it will still be in 4:3. And as far as I know there are no 4:3 official HDTV resolutions. Atleast Ive never seen any channels broadcasted at that ratio. All the HDTV signals I have seen are all 16:9.

I know a lot of HD tuner cards support 1440x1080i but I have never tried it on a HDTV. If you have would you mind posting the timings you used cause Id love to use that rather than 1280x1080i for games if my TV can handle it =)

Ahhhh 1440x1080i is for LCD, LCOS, and Plasma display. Thats why I didnt know about it =) No where near the kind of income to have one of those

So its still not relevant here since its about CRTs =)
