Any issues with the Shuttle AN35Ultra

I have pretty much settled on this board. But some guy posted on newegg that there is some incompatible with WD harddrives. Any truth to that? I keep going back and forth on the board. I was going to get an Audigy instead of using the onboard sound. Maybe I should get a board with more features.

I haven't had any issues with mine, but I also don't have any WD hard drives. Did this guy indicate he had the latest BIOS?

No but the post was on 10/6/03. It says the are "known issues with WD hard drives" so that implies that someone else has reported it.

Well, neither the shuttle site nor the WD site have any information pertaining to issues with WD drives and this or any other Shuttle board. Even with a Google search I couldn't find any reference to this. I will admit I didn't check every possible link, but none of the headings or exposed text that you can see indicated this "known issue".

Since he didn't site a source of this "known issue" I suspect its more his opinion than anything else.

I have Maxtor drives, but I do spend some time over in the Shuttle motherboard forum at amdmb.com, and I have seen nothing about this.

I bet the guy had the same problem I did. I was hoping to move in my new board and then let Windows pick up the new hardware and then I could install the drivers. My system kept hanging right after the POST. Once I finally figured it that Windows just wasn't going to PnP this stuff, I did a low level format and killed everything. The system immediately found both of my drives, and I made new partitions, formatted, installed Windows, and have had no further incidents since that time.

I have a 40GB Caviar and a 30GB cheapo, both Western Digital. Absolutely no problems.

Dr D., I posted this question to the Shuttle motherboard forum over at AMDMB.COM, and no one there is aware of the issue and some of them have WD drives in their system.

Thanks for the info. I was going to get one of those WD 7200/8mb cache drives for my next computer. I hope I can get everything for Xmas. Oh and how is this board for OCing? I guess I really don't need a hugh amount over 200FSB but it is nice to know you can. Is an unlocked multiplier and AGP lock standard with all NF2 or does it depend on the manufacturer?

Since I just got my PC3500 memory I am now running at 209MHz FSB with an 11x on the multi, for an everall 2.3GHz. I haven't really pushed to see just how high the motherboard will go, but again, I can't complain about a board I got for $65 shipped.

im impressed at how well that board is doing for you.. is that with the water cooling etc?
i was worried because its so much less expensive than others with the nforce2 ultra..

was it cost that stopped you from buying another?
IIRC you had a shuttle some time ago.. are you just comfortable with them?

Ya, I'm still H2o on the CPU, but the NB chipset just has the passive cooler on it, and I have one of those heatpipe coolers for the video card.

Yes, money was definitely a factor, but as for reliability, I've not had problem one with my Shuttle boards, and I sold my AK31A with my 1700+ to a guy I work with, and while not an overclocker, it is running rock stable for him.

good... that makes me feel more warm and fuzzy inside, ill admit that most of what i buy seems to be budget but i still prefer quality junk to obsolete and pitch in less than a year

ill likely never overclock it (not too much anyway) but its nice to know what its may be capable of with some accessories..

At this point I have no regrets about the purchase. As an overclocker I would like to have had the option for chipset voltage control, and VDIMM maxes at 2.7V, where I really would have liked at least 2.8V, and 2.9V would have been even better.

I just built one with this board and it's running on a 40Gig WD drive no problems at all. So far I love this board, I accidently oced my 1800+ and it was reading 19xxGhz. I was like what the?? I put the settings back and it's been rock solid. I don't know but I can't remember when I've ever had a problem with shuttle boards.
