should i buy a raptor or wait?

i really want to buy a raptor for the increase in speed over my 7200rpm hdd. would it be smart to buy now or should i wait for the new 72gb models to come out and lower prices a bit or do u think they will lower any at all when the new model comes out...and is there any bad things about the raptor i should know... i assume it puts off quite alot of heat due to the faster rpm and i would prolly get a cooler of some sort for it. anyone here have any likes or dislikes about their raptor. all i will be doin is putting my OS on the drive and the few games that i do play... thanx for the info

    thanx

Raptor = best non-scsi HDD on the market (not for the price, but pure performance AND 5 year warranty). I'd wait for the bigger capacity ones to come out first. They'll cost a lot, but I feel that 36GB is not enough storage space for 1 drive. Up to you though...if you do a lot of work with large files and need to copy/modify a lot of stuff on the HDD constantly, then you will find the raptor to be your new best friend.

If your storage needs fit inside 36GB, I can highly recommend the Raptor. Mine is lightening fast, runs cool (about 34c avg.), and fairly quiet!

do u think the performance of a raptor would be better than 2 7200rpm 80gb hdd on raid 0.. i know there is a reliabilty issue with the raid and i could lose all my data, but is it faster, i have never delt with raid but would like to experiment. most of the time my data isn't that important, if i could get a nice 80gb as a hot deal would it be to my advantage, performance wise to run them in raid(i already have one 80gb)but then again i would have to buy a raid controller and already i would have almost near the money i had in the raptor.
choices choices choices.... maybe i will just save the money... and buy some socks or something.....

    thanx for the info

Yes but not faster than 2 raptors That looks like about $224 now. Or you can get a single 36gb 15k scsi drive/controller for about $320. A 73GB SCSI solution would be about $550

Not to insult your intelligence or anything, but.. what kind of motherboard do you have? It just may have an onboard RAID controller.. (If it doesn't and you already knew that, please accept my apologies.) I ran RAID 0 for over a year with no problems with 2 40GB drives. Those 2 older HDDs are now in my second sys described below and still running strong.

No offense taken BlueOval but my mobo does not have onboard raid, it is an Abit BH7. I would just get one raptor for now if i elect to go that route... I think i will just wait and see what comes about with the new 72gig raptor. although if i can get another 80gig hard drive for cheap like i got my last one i will prolly go ahead and run raid...
    thanx for all the info...
