Empires, Dawn of Modern World look any good?

This comes out today, and I'm debating about getting it. I've always liked the civ type games, and the demo for this one was fun. It's supposed to have true unique units for each civ and modes for fast and slower games. I hope the online play isn't full of morons like battlenet is. Tell me what you think.

Don't use the ATI CAT 3.8 drivers with this game, it seriously screws it up. I've only played it a little, but it looks great and is fun so far.

Is it a RTS like Age of Mythology (which I hate)
or turn based like Civilization (which I love)?

It's an RTS, but you can slow it down or speed it up as much as you like. They have an empire mode(slower paced) and an action mode(fast paced) for multiplayer.

EXCEPT Activision is screwing us on LAN play. It won't play on a LAN the way RoN and Empire Earth did. They seem to think people should buy the game twice in order to play on a LAN, stupid creepy Activision fools, they deserve all the Warez against them.

So, is Blizzard evil for making you buy two copies of Warcraft 3 if you want to play the game on a LAN? I don't see the big deal.

It is similar to Rise of Nations, but I think it improves on it a bit. You don't have to mess with the primitive rock throwing stages and they stop you at WW2 so there are no laser weapons or 2 ton robots. It has several game modes as I've mentioned, and the graphics look pretty good. Plus, each civilization is actually different as opposed to just have different names.

It sounds good. I may have to try the demo.
