Task manager
Just got XP, I really like the stability after 98se. What annoys me is the limited control I have over deleting files etc.
Anyway, in taskmanager I have 35 runnung processes but only 1 % cpu usage. Is this number normaor way to high.(seems like a lot 35)

yeah, it's a lot...win2k and especially winXP have a lot of processes that run in the background....a LOT of them can be turned off, or at least set so they start only when needed...go to www.blkviper.com and check out the winXP services guide.

35 is a LOT. I used the website that is mentioned above and right now I have a total of 23 processes running. Current programs that I also have loaded:
Mozilla
MusicMatch
Kazaa
WeatherBug
Norton Antivirus
(not bad for having all that and only 23 running in the background)

as more comparative purposes, i currently have 18 processes running, which aside from system processes include:
Folding @ home (2)
Internet Explorer (2)
Exact Audio Copy (1)
Winamp (1)
so only 12 system processes win2k however is a bit less of a hog when it comes to system processes than winXP is, XP will inherently have a few more running.
