    Friken WinXP

I don't know what the porblem is. I have a ECS K7S5A Pro rev.5 board with an Athlon XP 1800+. I can't get XP setup to run. It's runs all the way through 98SE setup but not XP. I'm getting angry beacuse I've exchanged the motherboard and CPU already and no luck. It just locks up at the screen that sais Setup is Starting Windows, this is the blue screen, even before I can make any partitions. I mean what the hell is the problem?? anyone know?
    Specs:
    Athlon XP 1800+
    ECS K7S5A Pro rev. 5
    128MB SDRAM
    ATI Rage PCI 8MB
    Western Digital 40gig 7200RPM HDD
    52x CDROM
    FDD

    What I've tried:
    1) Exchanged Mobo/CPU already
    2) Tested XP CD on other rig and it worked there but not here
    3) Tried unplugging everything except Video/cdrom same result
    4) Tried different RAM even some Mushkin DDR, no luck

The only two things left are the PSU/CDROM to work with but it can't be because it was able to run Win98SE all the way through with no problems. Anyone have this problem??

crap... lol . The new bios screwed everything up... Now the computer wont even post. This is priceless, last time I buy one of these motherboards. These new Rev.5 Pro ones really stink, I have an older non-Pro K7S5A board and it works great and has been for over a year now. Looks like they threw something new and buggy out, figures. Anyone else have problems with these boards??

The only thing you haven't mentioned checking is your HDD. Apart from teh obvious scandisk, have you tried installing windows on your HDD in another system?

Or, do you have a scratched CD?

    Just things to look for

I tried the CD on other systems and it worked fine, and like I think I mentioned before I was able to install Win98SE on the drive with this setup and it ran fine. I was done with the thing and returned it so the problem is over. Apperently the retailer said they were getting a lot of returns on these boards, they probably had a weird batch or something.

I have a Soyo Platinum board. It is not the most popular board on the market, but it is rock solid. I have been running XP and it has been online almost 24/7 for the past year without a single blue screen. I run my e-mail, games, graphics, music and office apps off of it.

My other system has an Abit board running .NET Server which is just as stable.
