Question New Power supply with upgrade?

    Greets all,

Well, here's the deal. I have a 300 Watt Enermax PSU in my current system. It's been running great for the past year or so I've had it.

However, for the holidays, I'm thinking about upgrading my PC by putting in a new CPU and video card. More specifically, about a Athlon XP 2500-2600 or so and at least a Radeon 9600 Pro.

So my question is, would I need a new PSU for these upgrades? Would 300 Watts be enough for the setup I would be running?

It may be barely adequate but only because it's an Enermax...I'd feel better if it were at least 350 watt. I vote replace it.

Here is what I am running off of a 350-watt Enermax
    1800+ (SOYO KT-333)
    1.5GB RAM
    Radeon 9700 pro AIW
4 Thermaltake Smart Case Fan II's
    4 7200 RPM HDD's

As I said before, I am running off of a 350-watt and I have room to spare. If your specs fit into mine, then you should be fine with the 300-watt. Save your money.

(I was also running same system, but with a 1.1 T-Bird off of a 300-watt generic PSU.)

    edit: spelling

    Comparing a 300 watt vs a 350 watt?
    Apples to Oranges...

I was running a generic 350 watt with a single hard drive, 2 optical drives and an ATI Radeon 8500LE. 10 months no problems. I upgraded to an ATI Radeon 9700PRO and the PS fried in less than a week.

The way I see it, you can spend your money now, or spend it later at the most inconvenient of times...
