    32mb Radeon9000 enough?

I was going to buy a laptop sometime around the holiays, but now ive seen some deals and im tempted to buy now. I have a few questions though

I'm going to get the Dell 600m. I'm mainly going to use it for doing homework (I have a nice desktop in my dorm) so I'm going base configuration on everything. I may occasinally use it to play a game just when I bring it over to friends houses (mini-lan party) or watch movies on the go. For $75 i can upgrade to a 64mb 9000, but Im not really convinced i need it.

    What do you guys think?

Also can anyone have any reasons to/not to buy it now?

If that's all you're using it for, 32mb is more than enough. The higher video mem is needed only for the gaming and if you're not really too serious about it, you won't need more than the 32 (or 64, which is not too bad an upgrade for that $$).

Oh...forgot to mention, get as much system memory as you can afford. For the homework and surfing, it helps......

well i mean its primary purpose isnt for games, but I will use it over the summer for gaming, just so I can bring it over to friends houses and play, but im not hardcore on framerates or resolution or anything. If current games are playable w/ 1.3 petium M and the 32mb version, im happy.

I found an awesome deal on it though so Im going to go ahead and order it tommorow.

as far as memory, im just going to order with it 256, then buy more memory and install it myself (its like $180 for 512, and i gotta keep this cheap because i just built a high end desktop 3 mths ago).

As you can see from some of the last posts, pinchies ati 32mb, runs alot worse than my 64mb, even with a 700mhz cpu advantage.

What games, may I ask are you gonna play on it?

halo and battlefield 1942 run great on my lappy!

i play bf1942, UT2K3, Medal of Honor AA and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Im thinking they should all at least run at low resolution on my laptop. I cant wait to get it, but they havnt even given me an estimated ship date or processed the order yet!

mine ended up just over $1200. thats why i bought it so suddenly . It was a special deal through a partners program though, so its not availible to the general public. still, I think you can get for like $200 or so more. They have some great deal going right now.

Just wanted to let eveyone know I got it a few days ago, and it is nice. I havnt had time to play any games yet, but the screen is just amazing. It runs at a higher resolution than my 18" LCD for my desktop and is still clear! I actually feel like everything is way oversized when I used my desktop now. Battery life isnt as absolutly amazing as I though, but still very good. Hibernating seems to take up a good amount of power though. It looks like under normal use I can get 4 hours (including wifi access). It seems pretty speedy too. Also, walking anywhere on campus and being able to get on the campus-wide wifi and stream movies from my desktop or do homework is awesome! The speakers are pretty loud w/ good quality for laptop speakers too.

Just wanted to give my reccomendation for anyone who might be considering getting it.
