Those rankings look good now, but anything can happen between now and xmas. I'd love to see some of the prices come down myself...

Sorry, but I have another question.

I've been doing some searches on Newegg, Mwave, and Pricewatch for the 9800np.
EVERY SINGLE result I turn up either is a 9800 Pro, or is listed as the 9800SE. I can't seem to find ANYWHERE just a regular 9800np without the crappy "SE" plugged in at the end.
Could someone give me a link to a retailer that does have regular 9800np's? I'm starting to think they dont exsist.

Have you checked your local, Best Buy, Circuit City, or Compusa stores.

I think 9700np's and 9500Pros should be mentioned here, both superior to the 9600XT at roughly the same price (maybe $5 more for the 9700)....of course, availability is a BIG problem....

As was mentioned before, Black Friday may bring some serious deals!!

Honestly, no. First I thought prices would be better online anyways (aside from those special Thanksgiving sales).
Second, It's been snowing several inches here the past 2 days and my little car isn't too great in winter weather.

As of right now though, I'm not looking to buy any card for AT LEAST a month or so. I'm just getting suggestions from you guys and getting a feel for what's out there and what I should go after. But all these "9800 SE's" are starting to worry me a little. If Newegg or Mwave don't carry regular 9800np's, what are the odds best buy will?

How long ago was that? And do you know if it was a sale (in your area) or a nationwide thing?

I bought mine on the first of Oct. and from what I`ve been hearing it is nationwide, some of them have been selling them for lesser, then what I paid for mine.

    WdaF????$@#$@

i wouldn't get the SE version (totaly crippled pipelines) if i was looking for performance potential, go NP (although discontinued and harder to find, but with pipelines there to be reactivated), the pipelines are there and a bios flash will do the deed to a pro version.

Tbird, i got all this informations by reading several posts, much of it contained here in this thread and the rest were made at your hideout, the video corral.

wuts up with the recommendation of the SE and then the mod to Pro upgrade, isn't that a major cr@pshoot??? i may be wrong but it seems my brain recalls it that way at 5AM.

If you can get the se for the same price as a 9600 pro, why get a 9600 pro when you can get a 9800se and maybe it will mod? if not you still have a card a little better than a 9600 pro anyway not everyone can afford a $250 card, I almost won a 9800se for $131 on ebay that would have been one heck of a deal! no I am not paying $250 for a non pro, id rather take my chances. if it does not mod, I can always resell it and break even or just consider it a small upgrade from the ti4200

Personally, first of all there's no way I'd chance a 9800SE considering the threads I'd read on varoius sites.....second of all I don't think the price difference (although a fair amount) makes up for the real possibility of a mediocre card....third of all I don't think it's right to get a card, crapshoot mods, find they don't work and pass my failures down the ebay road.

Well, I'm not about to buy a sub-par card in the hope that MAYBE I'll be able to modify it (which I have no experience or knowledge in) and void the warranty in the off-chance that it will actually IMPROVE the performance rather than ruin the card. Sorry, but I don't think that's a viable option.

Right now, I'm keeping my eyes open for 9800np's as my first option.
