Is there a laptop with these specs?

    AMD mobile XP 2400+-2500+ or 1.3-1.4GHz P-M
    15" screen
mobile Ti4200 gfx card or an M9 card
    256MB-512MB RAM
at least a 5,400 RPM drive, preferably able to get a 7,200 RPM HDD
    DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive
    PCMCIA slot
mini PCI wireless card would be nice
    XP Home
dual boot with RedHat Linux (a bonus not a must)

Ok, if anyone knows where to get a laptop with somewhere close to those specs (notice I left a margin of specs) please tell me where and provide a link to the site or something. Also what do you think a laptop like that would cost? I am trying to aim at the $1000-$1500 range and the closer to $1000 the better. Thanks for the help.

You know of anyone besides Dell? I hate Dell, but maybe they have what I want.

Yeah, I figured that out. Dell is overpriced and as far as I am concerned makes close to absolute crap. I mean look at my sig. I am not gona buy from them. Jetta makes a nice laptop. I just wish they'd let me get it without an OS so I could install Linux on it and get XP Home later on.

Do you have any experience with a high-end gaming laptop like Recon and I own?

Not really. This would be my first laptop purchase. I just don't like Dell and I've had friends who've had bad experiences with them.

One of the purposes of this forum is to talk to people who have actual experience in your situation. I'm not a Dell fanboy, but I love my laptop. Recon seems to like his, also. Ask around for people who have other brands also before making a decision.

I shopped EVERY single brand for about 3 months, and you know what for a P-M and a removable Video card, dell is as cheap as it gets, I looked at Vodoo, Alienware, Sonic PC, HP, Compaq, Gateway, Toshiba, Sony, you name it.

best I could come up with for price with a widescreen was dell, and so far its run like a champ, played Max Payne 2 in Widescreen format with everything maxed cept AA

You can bash dell but Im telling you man I SHOPPED my *** off

I know what you mean. I will never buy a computer I don't build myself again I wish I could build my own laptop and just buy the parts and stuff. Like a site like neweggmobile.com You can find all you need to build a laptop, even cases and stuff, it'd be challanging, but awesome! Totally custom laptop

Also, why are there no laptops with an Athlon XP mobile and a mobile Ti4200? I could live with something like that. Those 2 things a combo drive and a 15" screen. Prob be all I need. Wish it could be cheaper It's possible fo under $1000 at newegmobile.com!

for some reason I couldnt find many manufactures that use AMD's in thier lappies, the P-mobile has been sweet so far, the scaling is a life saver in 4 hour lectures.

Honestly if you using this thing for any amounts of time then i wouldnt go without the the P-M

I saw the build your own parts, but I have mechanics hands, and a mid size case feels small to me so **** trying to work in a laptop

The reason there are very few AMD laptop machines is directly related to battery life. The AMD mobile chips simply use too much power compared to the Intel mobile chips.

I force my CPU to 2.6 unless I'm on battery for any extended time. Unless you're gaming it's not noticeable - I think it goes to 1.2 or 1.7.

This notebook is a little above $1500 limit but if you can swing it it is a real nice laptop. They will also load Linux if you want.
