sound on Epox 8RDA3+ doesn't play on rear speakers

What I mean is, I can't enabled 3D sound on games like Diablo2, the option appears greyish. Also, winamp 2.x or 5 alpha nor beta play music on the rear speakers. However Windows media player 9 does.
Some games like UT2k3 do sound on the rear speakers but I can't figure if it's really '3D environment sound' (too many sound effects at the same thime).

In sound options (C-media) inside Control Panel, the speaker test plays flawlesslly

Epox 8RDA3+ (nforce chipset)
Logitech Z-640
using Nvidia latest chipset drivers, 2.45 July-29-2003

2500+
temps are ok
120GB WD hdd
dvd -/+rw
430W antec psu, etc

Assuming you have configured the Nvidia control panel correctly, I also had to configure the sounds and audio applet to speakers advanced- quadrophonic. Then in Winamp configure the output plugin to direct sound.

OK.. managed winamp to play on the rear speakers. About the "sounds and audio applet to speakers advanced- quadrophonic", mine were automatically selected as 5.1.

Where is the Nvidia control panel? When I installed drivers, I never used the cd that came with the mobo, only used the ones from Nvidia site

The Nvidia control panel should be installed as part of the Nvidia Nforce MB drivers (ie its an applet in the normal control panel thing)

I installed the C-media and the Nforce drivers from the cd, I still don't see any Nvidia related icon on the Control Panel

If you unzip the Nforce MB driver pack (assuming its an .exe file) the control panel is in the folder called audioUtl. It has an executable called sndstorm.exe in it. Do a search on your C:\ drive and see if you can find it.

After trying with the new Nforce drivers, I still can't get sound on the rear speakers. What I did notice that the Nforce drivers doesn't install sound, only usb2, nic, ide, etc. I have to use the Epox cd that has the C-media drivers. Where can I download only new sound drivers?

I found this file, I can't open it. It says, Fail to initialize the NVIDIA audio drivers. Please install and try again. Not with old nforce nor the new nforce drivers. Maybe there's a relationship that nforce drivers don't install sound.

I gather you need to uninstall the nvidia sound drivers and reinstall the C-media http://www.pc-drivers.net/drivers_so...wnload_55.html

download the drivers (thanks for the link) but they are version 2.022 and the ones on the cd are 2.030. I tested them anyways, and in Diablo 2, the advaced sound options appear gryish even if I select 'Full Acerleration' in DirectX.

How can I make sure nforce installer doesn't install the nforce sound?

You might try uninstalling what audio drivers, that are listed in contro panel- add/remove programs and then go to the Nvidia folder in C: and find the C-Media drivers and install them. Don`t know if you have done this already but it might work.

Oh well, Going to get Audigy 2 in some days. It's not this problem that I will dump onboard sound, I always wanted an audigy

Will, it never hurts to have an excuse to upgrade, even if you don`t need one.
