Post How much performance can I gain......

Hi, I currently have 384mb PC-133 SDRAM and am thinking of bumping it up to 768 (3x256). Will I see any kind of major improvements over what I have now? Also, I am thinking of adding a fan to my case, and I'm wondering what a good 60mm fan is for me to get. The location is on the back below the power supply and I notice back there it seems like it's getting a little hot. I'm also bummed out about having an old 1 ghz SLOT A processor, which is why I don't want to get a new mobo and processor, just add some more ram. How easy will it be for me to install one of these for my current processor? http://www.colorcase.com/products/he...1/tk7fr01.html One last thing, (just to make sure I'm correct) I measured the fan dimensions from going left to right on the little screw holes that are there now, or do i measure it diagonally like a TV? Thanks for all your help, sorry I'm kind of new to this type of thing.

i think 768MB just might be a bit of an overkill for desktop systems, plus if you run an win 9x operating systems they dont utilize memory efficiently enough to see any improvement above 128MB unless you are multitasking or using photoshop, save your money 384 is PLENTY

O.K., thanks for the info on my memory situation. Anybody know anything about my fan situation? Thanks again. Also, soon I'll have a GeForce 3 which obviously has a fan on it, and I plan to overclock it a bit. Will one of these http://www.colorcase.com/products/co...n/slotfan.html slot fans help any or no? I was thinking of putting it into the PCI slot under the GPU, but I'm not sure if that would help or just block the airflow from the GF 3's fan? Maybe I could put it lower down below my sound card, or are these types of fans just a waste of my money?

ok regarding the last parts of your post its best to have an equal number of fans blowing and sucking so if you add an exhaust you better add another for intake, the 60mm measurment is along the edge, not the diagonal
www.3dcool.com has a good selection of quality case fans

about the super orb i dont know much about it so you might want to find some reviews or somthing before you get it, also you need to know how to remove the stock casing and all, if you need more help go post in the CPU/OC forum, they can help you alot better there

That's not really true at all. 256 is the most you can realistically see an improvement in, you get improvements above that but not worth the amount of money the ram costs.
