really weird stuff going on with my computer....psu failure?
Hey guys I have really weird problems, that I HOPE is my powersupply since I'm replacing it. Ok first off, these problems all started when I installed my new FX5900 video card. The computer will not boot up unless all my fans are disconnected, and the cdrom drive power line is disconnted, then it MIGHT boot up, otherwise sometimes it turns on and doesn't beep. Ok here's the second weird thing, the red HD light on the front of my case is ALWAYS on, 24/7, and i know it worked on and off before I put the new video card in. Its an aspire x-dreamer2 case brand new. the PSU is the stock 350watt that came with the case (3 weeks old). In windows, it will occasionally just turn itself off completely at random times, but usually, it happens just before the mouse starts acting up. The arrow for the mouse will disspear but the mouse will still work (kinda hard with no arrow). Ok ready for the WEIRDEST thing?? Last night I was playing SOF2 and I decided to check my cpu temps............the temperature read -82C!!!! hah how's that for stock air cooling?? Well obviously a glitch but weird ehh?? The secondary hardware monitor I downloaded last week read -0.5. Whats causing all these weird problems.........bad psu that was brought on by installing a power hungry FX5900 video card?? The motherboard is new, along with everything else. Oh and I know the video card isn't the problem, I tried putting my old 5200 back in and got the same weird problems. What do you guys think.
Oh and if it IS my psu, is it bad to run my computer like this for a few days while I wait for the new PSU to get here from newegg??

Certainly sounds like an underpowered PSU. Concern I would have running it like that is whether it is likely to trash the HDs or at least the windows install if it is crashing frequently.

It sounds like a PSU. I get something similar. Once in a blue moon, my comp will spontaneously restart (with a brand new 420W PSU!).
Are you sure that your CPU temp readings are inaccurate? High CPU temps will blow your stability all to pieces.
-
No I"m sure the temps are innaccurate..........that wasn't positive 82C, it read NEGATIVE 82 degrees C!!! My cpu usually stays around 35-40C.

The PSU needs to see dr. sledghammer right away for some emergency surgery.

Sounds to me like a case of faulty electrons. You're going to want to tip your computer on end and give it a good shake so all the bad electrons fall out. They're clogging up the whole works.

Sounds like your r2-d2 connectors are bad and maybe some c3po adapters

Ever seen the "Triumph the insult Comic Dog" comedy bit on Star wars? "he is some kind of super dork made from parts of lesser dorks" hahahahah
Anyways, here's another weird thing it does, whenever it decides to automatically reboot in windows for no reason, when it gets back into windows XP sends an error box that says my display driver for FX5900 is at fualt for system instability. hmmm.

If its not the PSU then its definitly the mobo, if you are bold try to flash the bios. Bios flash not really hard, just don't interrupt it while its doing it. (RIP asus a7a mobo)
