    Old faithful! Dell upgrade

Well I ran out of cases at home to house all my new equipment so I started to cycle the older equipment out and swap them...

So my older P2B-S board with a P3 500 was removed from its case and dropped into a Dell case.. Yes a Dell...

At first I didnt think it would fit.. Since the P2B-S is one large beast! But it barely fit!

So I got that mounted... And I had to rework the wiring for the front panel.. So out came the soldering iron.. And I cut me a 1 foot long piece of cat5 cable..

I needed to be able to rewire the small circuit board that is on the case... This circuit board controled the HD LED, Power LED, Power Switch and Reset... So that was a total of 8 wires. That is why I selected a 1 foot long piece of CAT5 cable

So I removed the circuit board and wired the cat 5 directly to the board.. I just need to finish the plug side that will be placed onto the individual copper legs on the board...

But the Dell PS would not power up my board.. So I swaped that with another power supply I had laying around. But that power supply is 1/8" wider then the Dell.. So I am going to have to rework that to be able to close the side door...

Here is a picture with the new board mounted

Its hard to give up that board.. I paid over $300 for it back in 96/97 and I love it... It cost so much because of the onboard Ultra2 SCSI controller...

I should of gotten the P2B-DS Dual CPU with SCSI

    Some more work I did

Here is the quick and easy fix for keeping those annoying wires together

Yes I was working on my desk

    ---

Here is the other shot... I even installed that keylock It will cut the main power if needed

    ---

Here is the old CDROM drive I was installing. The DVD drive next to it is for another machine (spare parts around the home)...
I am rather suprised at the size of that CDROM drive... That sucker is very short

Thanks... I didnt think of it until later.. I did use CAT5 cable, but then I went through my cubby packs of junk and found those ends So I just used the CAT5 cable sleeve to hold the wires together...

I am glad you liked it

I probably should of measured the length of each section.. I kinda winged it... So some are shorter then the other...

I also added some wire loom around the ATX power cable...

I also removed the reset switch and drilled out the hole bigger.. Then added a keylock... Now this is a special keylock so not just any PC case keys would fit/work

I think the modding you're doing is ten times better than anything most people do for looks. The only mods I think are better/cooler are the really unique ones, like the spider thingy and briefcases and such. Keep up the good work.
