Etching Plexy?

Etching plexy, how hard is this to accomplish with a dremmel?

it is actually quite easy. i did it and as long as you take your time and don't rush it, the results are quite good! i am still waiting for some pictures to be sent here (mom just got them developed) and hopefully i can get them posted to show you what i've done. it helps if you have a flexy shaft and can hang your dremel from the ceiling or something to allow you more of a pencil like action. either way...have fun and enjoy!

Still sounds difficult, don't they make an adaptor that fits the drmels for that kind of stuff, it rest on the plexiglass or something allowing the dremel to cut so far in?

they might make adaptors like that, but i just freehanded it. it really isn't too hard to watch and see how deep you are going into the plexi. and i'm really hoping my mom will get those pictures to me by this weekend, or sometime early next week.

im thinking of doing something simple like the punisher skull, so it should be decently easy, alot of white with a couple eyeholes and noseholes

what kind of tip did you use for the dremel?

i don't know any of the names of the tips, but i was just using the engraver dremel bits (little round one with notches in it). i just took all of the different ones that i had and then experimented with them on some extra acrylic and then picked by using that experimentation.

if you get one of these: http://store.yahoo.com/flyyourflag/drspgucukit.html you can have the dremel always cutting the same depth into the plexi. I wouldn't use the bits that they send (they're intended for something else entirely) but a Burr attachment should be good. (small metal cylinder with grooves in the sides and a flat bottom)

personally for a job like this, i would rather not use something like that. to me it would feel to restrictive and wouldn't give me the freedom to do it exactly how i wanted (i would have to follow the rules set down by this contraption). really it is up to you, though. i personally prefer just doing it freehand, but that's me.
