    Can speakers kill you?

*Note: This thread is merely for speculative, humorous discussion.
It's not meant as any kind of encouragement or a method to actually do something to yourself.

Hey, since we all like the sound and fury of deep subs blasting away, would this be a preferred way of going out of the world. Let's say you're old and decrepit, or really, really down. How about strapping that sub to your chest with duct tape and cranking it to full power?
    Questions:
    1) What would actually happen to your inner organs? Would the sound waves turn all insides to pulp by some kind of hydrostatic shock? Or would it lead to cardiac arrest?
    2) What would be the most effective placement to insure the most brutal pounding? I know the port pushes air, but would it be the port or the woofer facing the chest? Sound waves or port air?
    3) Does anyone want to test it this week?

Hey I have a really crappy week going... buy me 20 high quality 18 inch woofers and amps to power them and I could test it out. I would start out at 10Hz and make it all the way up to 1000Hz.

BTW, the bass test is in another thread.
I suggest you start with a crappy throwaway CLabs sub, work to an ultra, and then to those 18" monsters.

Why don't you make it less painful by sticking the sub right beside your ear. A quick and clean blow.

the nutcases that compete in car audio SPL competitions can produce sound loud enough to kill you.

iirc, 180db (or 160?) is the killing point, and some of these guys get up there.

I've heard that in Bell Labs tests, that sound waves lound enough can literally punch holes through certain dense materials.
    Prolly from 300db on up?

Anyone know the dB level of a certain hz that will cause you to instantly throw up? My friend had 6 JL Audio 10's in his Neon (lol) and made his girlfriend throw up one day. That's all I heard though, and I wonder what dB must be acheived.

Yeah, I've also heard about loud, deep, bass making you sick. I thought I saw a show on the discovery channel talking about scientists working for the Police, in creating some sort of criminal immobilizor. They would just aim the bass waves towards them and make them so sick that they couldn't keep running.

The first thing you would die from is cardiac arrest, At a certain Db level your heart just stops beating.

Pinchy told me yesterday that his friend is picking up his SWS a day early because he already suffered 2 cardiac arrests. You think he would have learned his lesson...

I've downloaded a few bass tests that have made me feel like i have a horrible headache after like 60sec when the volume is pretty loud... low frequency crap can kill your hearing, long term exposure could probably start doing some serious damage to your brain.
