XP 2500+ Vs. Mobile 2500+ ???
It seems the new mobile chips are nice overclockers. Can someone tell me why they are so good and how does a mobile barton 2500+ match up against a regular barton 2500+ ? voltage? overclockability? heating? etc.

Voltage:
Mobile Barton: 1.45v
Desktop: 1.65v
The mobile bartons overclock a lot better because they are the higher quality cores and start out a lower voltage, meaning you have a lot a lot more headroom to raise the voltage. Also, the multiplers of the mobiles are unlocked. There's no reason to go with a desktop barton at this point.

I have had good success with my overclocking. I believe that on the mobile XP the voltage is lower to begin with, so that gives your o/c ability a little more headroom. Thats what I thought I was told before. If I'm wrong please correct me to answer eijiyuki s question

usually 266 i think, but they will overclock to anything quite easily.

kpxgq's overclock versus my overclock is a good example of xp2500+ versus mobile xp2500+ his 2.41Ghz is a "mild" overclock, my 2.41Ghz is pretty much my max, and i also need 1.95v to do it....i'd be willing to bet that his overclock needs far less voltage.

Yeah, until someone figures out what we're doing and decides to lock THEM (mobile).....

i don't know if they can do that...the mobiles depend on the multi unlocked for that speedstep stuff.

yep...unlocked multipliers are a big part of how all the power saving features of the mobile athlons work...when the processor is idle, the multiplier is lowered considerably by software in order to decrease power consumption. when a program is fired up that requires a lot of CPU power, the multiplier scales up again to increase the clock speed of the processor so it can efficiently run the program.

I still like my desktop barton. its stable at 2.5ghz @ 2 volts, but its pushing 60C lol Temps are such a big concern for me, I really wish I had heard about the mobiles before I paid a premium for a chip with a guaranteed stepping.

sell one or more of what you got in your sig. You could sell your entire 2.8c rig and easily get several moble bartons to play around with
"I really wish I had heard about the mobiles before I paid a premium for a chip with a guaranteed stepping"
dont we all? better stuff comes out all the time. Your barton was almost as good as my tbred(see your sig) but now my tbred seems to have lost its champ ability to overclock so high, no matter games fly reguardless, another 15% more cpu power arent gonna make much of a difference, but 200% more will. Ill just wait for a really good a64, will be 90nm too
