plexi-glass shelf comp
hey guys,
i built a plexi-glass shelf-computer that was intially something that i wanted just for myself. i was tired of having to bend over to insert and take out cd-roms, i was tired of having my large case take up lots of floor space, and i was tired of the hair and dust that was especially prominent on the floor, getting in my case. thus, i came up with this shelf-concept that, for me, is an entirely better solution for a custom built computer. it is totally space efficient, it is aesthetically pleasing, it is at the perfect height for working with and using cd's in, and, for somebody who wants to show off their components etc., it is worlds better than a window in a floor pc. I have used it for over a year, and it has been great. i initally had some qualms about whether static would be a problem, but the company that i worked with assured me that it wouldnt, and my experience has been problem free.
recently, i began to think about whether this would be a viable product in the custom computer market. as of now, all i have is a website that i just built, and my own shelf (flat 1.0) that is somewhat of a prototype. as you can see in the pictures (the full-size pictures are a little too large right now), i don't currently have a computer fully put together on the shelf, because i owed the one i had to my dad. however, the partially full shelf should give you a good idea of the basic setup: the psu goes behind the dvd-rom (the drive with the white label), and the hard drive goes behind the cd-rw (the drive without any colored markings); i attached the drives with some very sticky and very grippy velcro type tape which worked excellently; for the motherboard i just the mounting screws that come with any case and screwed them into holes i had drilled in the top shelf. the cables all run off the input/output side of the motherboard, where i grouped them together into one strand using velcro. i have been extremely happy with my design, and i wanted to see if there would be any public interest in it. i'm not advertising it, since i don't have any to sell, but rather, i just want to put this out there and see what you guys think. so tell me, any suggestions, comments, what do you think?

Not a bad idea, I supppose if someone likes their PC exposed like that. I am sure you can improve the looks by adding multiple shelves for more devices. Get some PLEXI Devices like Power Supply, CDRom, CDRW etc I am sure the are modable.

I have to agree with TAZ on this one. Not a bad idea.
With some development and marketing, I could definitely see this as a working idea for a pretty good product.
