SXGA+ I think is perfect, I have had it on my past 2 laptops, UXGA(1600x1200) is just to high for a small laptop screen.

    MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2.3Ghz i5, 8GB RAM, 640GB HD
    Desktop: i5 2500K (w/ CM Hyper 212 Plus) , 16GB DDR3, 2x240GB OCZ Agility SSD, 2x1TB in RAID0, 2xeVGA GeForce GTX 570, Corsair TX750M PSU, ASUS Sabertooth P67, Dell 2209WA eIPS LCD
    Home Server: Intel Pentium G630, ASRock H61M/U3S3, 4GB RAM, 80GB + 2TB HD

It depends on personal preference and you eyesight condition.
I am using Dell I8200 UXGA and I am very happy with crispiness and clarity of the screen. If your vision is good, go for UXGA. It will give you a great picture, but a little smaller text. I had set up "large" fonts in the display settings (120 DPI) and I am quite happy.
If your eyesight is not that good, go for SXGA for sure.

I would agree with almer, some people like higher resolutions, others don't - I really like the WUXGA on my 8600 (1920x1200, 15.4 inch widescreen) but I know other people prefer the WSXGA screen. You're best to try and see similar screens and decide for yourself.

UXGA seems to be the concensus in terms of best technology. The choice is yours!

It really depends on the screen size. For a 15" screen, I say SXGA+. For 14.1, I really wish more companies did something between SXGA+ and XGA. A 1280x960 (or even the villainous 1280x1024) would be much better (IMHO) than either SX or X.
