fan controllers don't work with panaflos?

i redid my system with my 1600+ after my barton blew up, and while i was at it i replaced the rear coolermaster fan with a panaflo L i had laying around and the ys tech heatsink fan with a panaflo M. i hooked them up to the fan controller, and i was surpised to see that they only run at full speed. the controller doesn't work at all. is this something known about panaflos that i missed somewhere? not a big deal in itself, but i'm wondering if the controller might be bad and that's what caused my barton to die?

that doesn't sound right. if you hook a rheostat up to a fan and turn the dial, its going to go slower/faster. (assuming the fan controller works right).

now, its possible you were running too many fans, and the powersupply couldn't handle it. that might be why your processor fried.

Panaflos are usually sold with 2 wires - lacking the third RPM sensor. You need to buy the appropriate connectors or extensions to allow them to be monitored.

that's exactly what i thought. but now that BlueOval mentions it, i had the tails put on these when i bought them, and there are only two wires. so i guess that's the reason, it needs the sensor wire. huh, i thought it would just be an issue of pure voltage, learn something new every day.

The newer panaflo 12's will all work--I like the 12M (medium speed) for case fans and they come w/ the 3-pin tails.

but the rpm wire shouldn't have anything to do with whether or not it works with the fan controller...

i don't know how else to explain it. i hooked up a few other fans to the controller, including the same lead as the panaflo, and those all work. it must need the internal sensor for some reason.
