This is all I could get from a google...
"Maxis' Luc Barthelet tells French TV that development on the next virtual metropolis has begun. Maxis won't comment.
According to the Web site for the German magazine PC Games, development on Sim City 5 has begun. The pcgames.de article says Maxis general manager Luc Barthelet recently told a French television show that "development started this month" on the game. The article also said Electronic Arts was looking for a new "mitarbeiter" on the project. Since that roughty translates as "co-worker," it could mean either EA is looking for another corporate partner in addition to Maxis or new development staff to work on the game."

Would be cool if they actually made the city 3D this time. So you can walk through similar to Streets of Sim City or SimCopter, but better graphics and gameplay. Like GTA but you build the city and try to stop crime and increase your voter popularity.

Awesome.
I want a remake of SimTower
Have it like a $20 budget title or something, same exact gameplay, updated graphics.

the thing about simcity 4 is that is too hard to make it grow sometimes. but i like the game.
a 3d world watching it grow (in 3d) that would be fun!

Real-time 3D would be impossible. Maxis stated this a hundred times. The best they could aim for is pre-rendered but with more camera angles. Some bump-mapping couldn't hurt either.
But enough about the graphics. Real Sim City fans care most about gameplay. Something which SC4 screwed up. But that was EA's fault. They wanted Maxis to make SC4 under a year, and quite frankly, the results speak for themselves. It took another 6 months of patching and an expansion pack to make the game playable.
Maxis began on SC5 without EA's production funds so they could squeeze more development in this time. Because every other Sim City usually took about 2-3 years to make!
