    Post Half-height modem

Hey, I'm trying to find a retailer who carries half-height modems. I need to put a fax modem version in a low profile system with a half height PCI slot. So if anyone knows who carries them and what a good brand to get is, I'd greatly appriciate a response. Thanks a lot.

Do you mean a modem that takes up only 1/2 a slot? I'm assuming by 1/2 height PCI slot you mean a 32 bit slot. (What used to be a 32 bit PCI slot instead of 64 bit). I think all modems fit into a 32 bit slot, or in other words, take up 1/2 of a 64 bit slot. Just get a decent modem that is hardware rather than software driven, and whatever you do, stay away from Winmodems.

I'm talking about a modem for a low-profile desktop system. In the case of this one, its a Micron ClientPro. A small form factor mobo, without a riser card. I can't put a riser card in it either, cause it has vertical access slots, and a riser card uses horizontal. So if someone actually knows what they're talking about, I would greatly appriciate some help.

Most winmodems are small enough cards (that is, the PCB itself) that you could just buy a 5$ PoS and cut/file the metal bits to fit :P

I am pretty sure my old Diamond Supramax modem was half-height.

"if someone actually knows what they're talking about, I would greatly appriciate some help." *** pal! Funny way to ask for help. If you wanted a low-profile form factor modem, you shoulda F***ing said so in the first place. (Ok, maybe you did, but that no reason to be a #@&#*&%$$#@%?*&&* about it. When you said half height PCI slot, it threw me).

Now that that's aside, IBM makes a low profile V90. Good quality. Under $50. I would bet the Zoom or any other modem manufacturer makes em as well.

First off...I thought I was being fairly clear. I said half-*height*...not half-length, which is what it sounded like you were thinking I was talking about. And my comment having to do with wanting "someone who knows what they're talking about" to reply...that comes from my frustration with people who post on a technical question and give no help whatsoever and it appears that they're just trying to boost their posts. Sorry if I offended you. And thanks for your help.

I know what your talking about, my old comp is a gateway flex case, so it only supports small cards (modem, nic's, etc.) Its a pain in the arse to find one man, trust me. I had to order everything from gateway, cause they were the only ones I could get one from.
