Yeah, it kind of tried to make D&D a single palyer game; BG1&2 really captured the essence of having a party of people, each one capitalizing on the other's strengths and weaknesses. That was part of the challenge; you didn't have to be a spellcaster, but you'd better have one and understand how to organize the spells a little bit or you were going to get eaten alive; your main character may not have been a thief, but there should be someone who can disarm traps or there was going to be a world of hurtin' going on. In NWN, you could ignore traps for the most part, and spells really could be ignored if you wanted to just muscle through the game.
