laptop HDDs
I'm getting a new laptop soon and my bro told me laptop HDDs are really bad unless you have a 7200 RPM one, So does anyone know where I can get the biggest HDD that has the most RPMs? Compaq sells a laptop with a 100 gig HDD that is 4200 RPM so I defintily think there has to be one the same size but faster, thanks in advance.

No, get a 4200rpm, that's what I use and it runs flawlessly. Battery life is also an issue with high rpm HDDs. Just use whatever comes with your laptop, you won't notice the difference much if not at all.
XPS 400, quit the comp. scene. My new toy:

I have a 4200rpm drive in my laptop, it works just fine. I wouldn't spend money to upgrade. I really like being able to get hella battery life. Most of the 7200rpm laptop HDs I have seen have been around 60gb.

Hrm, Tom's Hardware had an article to where they showed the differences between a 7200, 5400, and 4200 RPM drives, and honestly, battery life wasn't that much worse, it didn't get much hotter, but it had the speed benefit.
Lemme find the article...

I have a emachines laptop (fairly new to the laptop industry), but it is a good machine. My brother has one, too, and both of the work flawlessly. For a 15" widescreen, 512 MB RAM 60 GB HD, and radeon 9600 with 64 MB RAM, DVD/CD-RW combo, with 8 media card reader was something under $1300. Battery life (on mine), is not bad, and its pretty light for the size. I have had it 6 months, no problems. My Dell has gone thru 3 HD (being treated the same way) in a year, and cost over $2200
edit: It also has a AMD 64 3000+ proccessor

I just bought a 7200 rpm laptop hd for school so i wouldnt miss my desktop. to be honest i wasnt expecting much from it but it really is worth the upgrade. i figured its only 3000 more rpm but i guess that makes a huge difference to a computer.
Im not sure about the whole battery life thing but when i unplug my laptop it still says its giving me the same 3+ hours i havnt tried it out yet, and as for heat its not an issue. And the noise is nowhere near as annoying as the farting sound of the 4200 rpm hd's
