    Post Interesting Observation

Maybe I just haven't been paying attention very well. But it seems to me that the majority of people who are regular posters here seem to prefer AMD over Intel. I do also, but I was just wondering if it had to do with the price factor or just the fact the AMD processors are better. =) My opinion is that they are just all-around better processors. What are everyone else's thoughts? Am I right that people here seem to use more AMD processors then Intel...or am I just imagining things?

    price dominates my book.

the first P4 processor that can put up a fight against the Athlon 1.4 is the 1.6. and going above 1.6 will cost you a purty penny.

and not to mention RDRAM which is more expensive than the DDR.

dunno much about motherboards through. good athlon mobo is 70 bucks (ecs) or 120(8k7a). cant get much better than that.

    Athlon 1.33 ghz

    256MB DDR PC2100
    60GB 7200 RPM Baraccuda Iv
    13GB 7200 RPM Western Digital
    12x/10x/32x Iomega CDRW
    Voodoo4500 32MB PCI

    Soon to upgrade to...
    768MB DDR PC2100 RAM
    GeForce3 or Radeon2
    Soundblaster Audigy MP3+
    DVD Burner
    LCD Monitor

It's mostly price/performance. If Intel went dirt cheap people would switch over to them . . .

If AMD would build chipset manufacturing plants and design a full line of chipsets to compliment their processors as well as Intel has done in the past (440BX, i815) they would own the computing world. The Athlon is a tremendous product with outstanding performance that has been crippled by a lack of chipset support.

i think its mostly because alot of people here are PC enthusiasts who like to work on their computers, mod them , and push em to the extreme...

INtels are bad candidates for this as for one they are expensive (so extreme pushing is out for most budgeted people)

also intel is being a whore about ocerclocking and makes a crap load of barriers for OCers.

What kind of barriers are they making?
    Just curious...

Yea, but some of us know the problems of heat and electrons, may work but really doesn't mix.
I won't go amd {no matter the price} as long as they insist on building chips in this fashion {hot plates}.

Even if the AMD processors are better than the Intel? I mean come on, the Athlon 1.4 comes close to keeping up with the P4 2.0. If you get a good enough cooling system for the processor...the heat isn't a problem.

Yeah but considering the fact that a 1.4 ghz athlon is like 4x less then a 1.8 ghz p4. So even if you burned it up once & had to get a new one you still wouldn't be paying as much as you do for a intel.
