Depends on the brand. I'm not buying a knock-off brand like Yamasaki or Sorny.

To the average Joe who just looks for the best price, this is gonna be a great option. They're not gonna care that this laptop only has 128mb ram and stuff like that.

Add 128 more ram and anyone can go online with that rig! They will sell THOUSANDS of them.

While not exactly the Rolls Royce of the computer industry, ECS does have at least a decent reputation. Of course, I'd add some RAM, but I'd at least consider the notebook if the build quality's decent and I was looking for a bargain notebook option.

I don't think I'd buy one unless really desparate for a note taking machine.
I'd try to save for a more usefull model.

Wal-Mart is EVIL.
They sell substandard crap and drive legitimate businesses out of business.
I won’t shop at their stores.

i wouldnt on the count that it would soon be outdated. i mean, theyre talking 2.2 celeron. sure, the average user of Word and the internet may find it good, but if u wanna game, then u might as well save up for a P4 or a Centrino (good battery life and decent gaming performance for a laptop)

I would since I'll only use laptop to store data and do some word processing. My PC'll handle the big stuffs.

NullPointerException
No way. One attribute I need in a laptop is durability and dependability. If I'm out visiting customer prospects or at a trade show and my laptop breaks, Dell will send someone to me and fix whatever is busted. I don't think I'd be able to take it into the local Walmart and get it serviced (nor would I want to )
Like the old saying goes, when you need A/V equipment, don't but it from somewhere that also sells kitchen appliances; when you need computer hardware, don't buy it from somewhere that has endcaps of As Seen on TV merchandise.

It's only when you look at an ant through a magnifying glass on a sunny day that you realise how often they burst into flames.

So... who's fault was it, Linksys, or WallyWorld... I think there was a third un-named party in the deal...
But then, buying hardware from the guys with the big " " on their backs is ill-advised, IMO...
