SP-94 is just a HS, fan is extra. Id recommend a good 'ol 92mm Vantec Tornado, cranked to max rpm. The SP-94 will run ya about $55-$60 and the tornado should be less then $10. If you dont wanna pay that much I believe someone already mentioned Zalman's CNPS7000a-Cu. It runs around $40.

Those idle temps are still a bit high? Maybe your using too much thermal paste. Remember, grain of rice and paper thin.

woops it didnt even register in my mind that 45 celcius is 113 farenheight. my bad yea, i guess the SYS temp in hardware monitor is reading it at a heat source. the farenheight monitor on the case says 88-90 F, which seems about right. damn, im a moron...

I'm not all-knowing by any means, but I still seriously doubt your high temps are being cause by an inadequate HSF setup.

If you do get that new sink, though, be warned that a Tornado is named both for its airflow and for its noise generation. Sucker is loud.

WildWeasel, i've tried removing the hsf and re-applying thermal grease twice with similar results..on the other hand my dad is running the same exact setup as me in terms of cpu, hsf, case, and his case temps are always 33degrees and his cpu almost never goes above 55 degrees. I installed his HSF for him.

The only difference i can see is that his case overall is neater inside compared to mine.Could this extra cludder cause the heat difference?

Usually cables wont be a huge deal(unless you have a ribbon cable covering a fan). If you dont already get some round ide cable and some cable ties. Tie everything out of the way of the air paths and you could see a drop of a couple degrees.

Only other thing I can suggest is to replace that Spark 7+. The 2 best have been mentioned, the SP-94 with a Vantec for around $60ish or the Zalman 7000a-Cu for about $40. Ive also read some reviews about the Spark 7+ (i was considering it for my prescott but got the 7000a-Cu instead) and they said that fancy Tt grill cover blocks a heck of a lot of air. They said grab your dremel and cut it off, leaving little chucks by the screw to act as washers. This might help a little but I could highly recommened getting the SP-94 or 7000a-Cu.

Muchos weird. Just to throw something out there, maybe the mounting bracket is messed up somehow and your HSF isn't making good contact with the CPU...

Whatever it ends up being, good luck with getting it remedied.

WildWeasel, now that you've mentioned mounting problems, it has been brought to my attention that my cpu mounts a heck of a lot tighter on the mobo compared to my dad's..you really have to PUSH on my clips to get the HSF on...almost as if the fit is way too tight. My dad's hsf is much simpler to install. I'll take the motherboard out tomorrow and check on the mounting brackets to see if its something i can fix. I'll probably end up stealing the mounts off of my old motherboard. Thanks a lot for bringing this to my attention as a potential problem.

[PinPals]Apu , thanks for the tip about cables. The MSI Neo2 actually came with a round IDE cable which im currently using for my hard drives. I am still using the old school flat cable for the cd/dvd drives and it seems to be far away from any fans...Anyway what kind of temps are you getting with that Zalman 7000a-Cu?

    Same problem as you before

When I first installed my 3.0E i pretty much had the same temp problems. 77-85 temps on load with TT Xaser 7.

After spending a more money than I wish to mention I now have a system that is 100% at 38C and 48 loaded.

The few main factors in this temp.

    sp-94 (got from newegg)
Tornado 92mm fan (tried the Enermax first but the Tornado is has more capability on hot days in my room)
Fan speed controller. (so you can controll the Tornado)
    Artic Silver 5

    The most important ....

120MM Delta blowhole .....(sucks dust, hot air and anything else on my computer out) I was able to get 5-6 degrees lower by installing this.

My case temp is usually stable at 28-30C and room temp is about the 70F

With my new Zalman the cpu idles @ 40 degrees celcius, and under Prime95 torture test (maximum heat) it hits about 60-61 degrees celcius and never goes higher. Are these execptable numbers or did i screw up with this installation too? (using arctic silver 5)

    CPU @ idle 40C
CPU running Prime95 Torture Test (Max Heat) 60C
    Case Temp 33C

I have a 2.8e with a Zalmann 7000A and never break 50C. My temperature variation from idle to full load is only 8 degrees C. Can't explain why you jump 20 degrees C, but IMO 60C is acceptable for full load.

try running prime 95 torture test on maximum heat, you'll see ur cpu just more than 8 degrees.

under regular load my cpu hits about 45 degrees celcius, sometimes 50 in doom 3.

I taped the sensor from my case in a high heat area. The case temperature is flashing between 31 and 35C. MBM says 44C but that is really my NB temperature.
