Halo 2 for Pc
I've herd rumors online that Bunggie isn't planning on releasing Halo 2 for PC. Does anyone know if this is true?

I don't think it will be any time soon. Took years for the PC version of Halo, and it is sluggish. Maybe the cost isn't worth it to port it over. I did read that MS is going to merge the API set for Xbox and PC game development in the near future though, so that might be good for us PC gamers, eventually.

The reason there won't be a PC version is very simple. MS wants to sell more Xbox's, easy as that. It's all about numbers, once Halo 2 dies down they'll port it to PC to make even more money.

Anyone who's stupid enough to buy an XBOX for one good game deserves all the trouble crappy m$ ripoffs can bring them. Also, Bungie are worthless sellouts who'll never gain a good mark in my book. Since I sometimes review games for a living, that might just carry a tiny bit of weight.

How can you sometimes do something, if your doing it for a living? Technically, if your doing it for a living, wouldnt it be an everyday thing-- so you do it to live?

Best part about Halo PC for me was how easy it is to control the vehicles with the mouse/trackball. I have a harder time with the vehicles in UT2004 Onslaught.
If they do end up releasing it on the PC, I hope it is better optimized for the PC that Halo has been.

Yeah, the problem with the PC port was that it wasn't done by Bungie.

I read that they had some patch that would help a lot with speed on the PC, but Microsoft would not let them issue the patch on the Single Player version, only that supplemental multiplayer release. I think it had something to do with shaders maybe, but I can't remember for sure. Apparently improved speed nearly 2x on many systems. But MS would not let them incorporate it into the single player. What a bummer. Sometimes I wish MS had never bought Bungie.

how is that? I write reviews for games too and never really gave it some thought into making that a career until recently...

A career is a very big word. I'm a student but local gamesmags sometimes emply freelancers like me to write them the odd review, then pay according to word count. It doesn't pay much, but it's nice to get even a pittance for something you used to do for free.

It's called Halo: Custom Edition, apparently it's made to let modders do more with the game.
They speed up alot of other stuff too, like netcode, you can click a game from the list and start playing in <10 seconds. Pretty stable on my connection too, with ~150ms ping.
I recall them saying doing it over with the fast-shaders would take far too long for whole single player game, so they just did multiplayer levels.
The download runs at 174 MB, so it isn't really just a patch.
I'd love if they release a Halo2 for the PC. With my 6800gt, Halo combat evolved runs smoothly at 1600x1200, and the sound is just incredible. The mouse contols are second nature, so it all just feels so right. It is easily one of the best games I've ever played.
