Has anyone used Plasma to Mod a case?

I have a Miller Plasma cutter and was wondering how it would work on cutting out patterns on cases. The problem I have allways had with it is that it very hard to hold steady. Other then that it cuts very fine and fast. Any thoughts on this subject? Thanks.

The cut may be fine, but the edges left by a plasma cutter are typically very jagged. Alot of filing would be required. It would be difficult to end up with a perfectly round hole IMHO. It's kind of overkill if you ask me, unless of course, you posess some "mad plasma skillz".

A properly set up hole saw, jigsaw or my personal preference, a dremel cut are the best bets.

If you decide to try the plasma, keep use posted (with pics) on the results, good or bad, so everyone can see.

    Good luck!

I did some of the sheet metal work on my last case with a plasma cutter since I don't have a shear. No matter how steady you are with the plasma cutter you will have an edge that needs to be ground off if its a cosmetic part. Not that that's any reason not to use it. If I were going to cut my case i'd make some templates, cut the parts, and take the edges down with my die grinder.

The only time I've seen plasma make a clean cut is on a CNC machine.

Even then, you're going to have some slag on the backside.
