My vision is improving!
my winchester is a newcastle accroding to cpu-z
People told me I had a winchester based on the stepping. Well guess what:
So anyway it was easier than I thought to assemble the mobo and insert the winchester(ha!) I used the same hdd without reinstalling anything and it went fine. Yes you guys are dying to know the overclock, well heres it: 2.6GHz at 1.5(1.52v overvolt) with stock heatsink/fan! However it just hits a wall right there. I cant even load windows at 2.7GHz and 1.6v and at 2.64GHz ill get into windows but itll crash if I load anything. Raising the volts to 1.55 did not help. Seems like anything over 1.5x volts does nothing further. I checked CPU-z(June edition) and it reports my cpu as a newcastle 130nm! GRRR this makes me mad! I was like ok so it overclocks as good as my 3200+ s754 newcastle. I insert my best stick in and it wont get to windows at 240fsb. 235 crashes, 230 is fine. This is disturbing since I could do 250fsb on my 2800+ and 240 on my 3200+ wow this 3000+ newcastle's ondie controller really sucks! I inserted another stick and it wont even post in dual channel! removed one stick, set fsb to 200, t-2 command rate, put the other stick in again and no post! All this for nothing and I end up with a s939(s754 in disguise) newcastle that overclocks no better than my 3200+ either. The overclock is not too shabby but I wanted a dual channel winchester, not a single channel newcastle!!!!!!!!!!
I am happy with my overclock but I wanted a winchester with dual channel support! Not bad for a newcastle though! That newcastle arent doing 3GHz. Well it has come to my attention that maybe my sticks arent compatable in dual channel? Both are corsair value but were purchased at different times so the chips themselves could be different brands which corsair buys cheaply for value ram. One stick is rated cas3 the other 2.5 but both do 230fsb 2.5 to my knowlege. Tried the stronger stick at ras-cas2 185fsb, got to windows than crashed. wow. I was thinking of TCCD but it would be miralicious to hit 290fsb and the 166 divider puts the ram at only 236, meh! My better option is get crucial(value) and its almost certain ill hit 200fsb(133 divider) at ras-cas2 which would be 99% as good as TCCD run at 166 divider cause TCCD does not have ras-cas2 timings at higher fsb. If I get lucky, ill do 150 divider and run the crucial at 216MHz but I may need matching sticks for dual channel so ill need to buy new or buy from someone that guarantees dual channel

how would you know this, your ram is good for maybe 235/240 tops, as per you......................
get the frigging TCCD stuffs, you will see a whole new world of FSB clocking @1/1.
oh, i forgot, i and many others told you to get the stuffs already.........................
i am a bit confused though, i thought you got a winchester, now you say it is a newcastle, have you thought to contact the retailer you got the cpu from??
and i read that you determined it was a 130 part, not 90??? if so, you should be contacting the vendor, yes???????????

I just put my corsair for sale while I think what to do next. I would have kept it if it did dual channel but I needed matching sticks. If I do buy tccd, the guy that sells me will need to guarantee 280fsb at 2.7v(?) or its going right back. as for my cpu, I will try other cpu-i programs but I may just get a new winchester with SS soon, amd is making them with SS and those supposedly oc higher. I just need 10x or higher multi this time since my mobos only capable of ~300fsb, tried 310fsb and its too high for the mobo to handle.

you pop for PC4800 stuffs (doubtfull), 280 guaranteed is not reasonable.
the PC4400 Gskill (LE stuffs) is guaranteed to 275, 2.5,3,3,7.
you will get better results running with the 2x256 kit, especially since all you do is bitzch, err, i mean bench. if you get the 2x512 kit, you are setting yourself up for another disappointment as they WILL not CLOCK as high in dual channel (which is what you want so desparately).
get the Gskill from Digi4me, the $140 LE kit (PC4400/PC3200). i will tell you this, if you have a problem, their tech support (Gskill, not Digi4me) is instant, i know this as i am now talking to them about something else i have brewing.......

Try this rev of CPU-Z. 11/15/04, might pick up your rev better. Also, definately make sure you are using latest bios rev, and yes, I think you need matched sticks for DC. Good luck!

I unplugged my "winchester" rig and am selling my corsair value for some crucial pc3200 if I can find, else gonna buy a dual channel kit new unless I find used. I will get TCCD when amd improves their ondie controller performance, no need to bug me, its a when, not an if.

You have a winchester core, the june did not have the settings to detect a winchester core. Just face it, you got an avrage core. Get a 1GB of OCZ Rev2, some cheap DT43 Hynix chips, or something on those lines and play some games. Give up beching, your just avrage in the sea of all these hardcore benchers with baker blocks, dual cascades, unlimited funds to spend of the right cpu. Just give it up and be happy with what you have. My god, ppl will kill to have what you have. Its a sweet setup that justs needs some decent ram, and a new video card(Mabey, 9700Pro's are getting on the slower side imo)

I am in no way disapointed with 2.6GHz and people tell me its above average too. good to know its winchester like you and others have said, I paid for one, I expect one I dont care that I wont have 30k for a while, I compete with slower cards and I am gonna break 20k all air with ti4200 and be close to top of orb with it. you say ti4200 is too slow, now softmodded 9500 is too slow? well my next gpu will be pci-e not gonna get stuck with an agp card when agp is on the demise.

I think 2.6 on the winchester would be an average.
btw what cooling are you using? you can't really expect a 1ghz+ overclock with stock cooling.

he is running with the stock heatsink, updated with a tornado 80mm fan, the last i read.
yeah, springing for a 948u or xp120 or even the xp90 will help, they all can be purchased fanless, so he can use his present fan.......

Yes... a softmodded 9500 is slow. We have told you that your TI4200 was too slow 2 product cycles ago. Now you think a 9500 is fast, when it is already 2 years old, your quest to be the cream of the crop is hilarious, when you don't accept that you need cream of the crop parts. Also, as a side-note, agp is going to be around for a bit longer.
