HELP! Sony VAIO GRV550 HDD Failure

The HDD on my Sony GRV550 died. Sony's website says that it is not replaceable by the owner, which seems bogus.

I found a nice Seagate 60Gb HDD at Newegg that would be perfect if the Sony cable would just plug into it.

Anyone know if I can just replace this myself? (never touched a laptop, but have done about 350 desktop builds, and I'm not willing to get gouged by Sony).

I need to get this sucker going soon -- it's a 24/7 folder.

    THANKS!!!

A notebook hard drive is a notebook hard drive. But while you're at it, why not go for something a little nicer, and get a Hitachi 7k60 7200rpm 60GB hard drive?

Thanks. I would go for a nicer drive, but all this laptop does is fold 24/7, so I ended up with a 40Gb 5400rpm drive from newegg for $70.

Doh! Sony said the HDD was not user repairable -- one screw and the HDD bay slides out! hehe
