    Sound Quality

Are there any differences between brand name laptops ( IBM , HP, etc. ) regarding the sound quality they give from their speakers ?

Yes, the speaker sound varies from bad to worse.
For personal listening you need a good set of earphones.

Thanks ua549 . I take it that this means that the "sound board" is putting out good quality on all the laptops , with no real differences in quality between them ? Is this integrated on the CPU chip ?

The sound processing is in the chip set, not the CPU. There is a big difference between the speakers on notebooks. Some have one speaker. Most have 2 speakers. I wouldn't want to listen to music from any of them. Like I said the quality range is from bad to worse. A one inch or smaller speaker is incapable of producing reasonable quality low and middle frequency sounds.
