ThinkPad recommendations Please
Hi All,
I am in the market for a used ThinkPad and so far I have heard good things about T22 (except its sub-par video graphic). My budget is no greater than $450 and I have managed to found some deals hovering in that price range. However, I came across a web site that claims installation of WinXP Pro is not recommended by this model of ThinkPad:
http://www.studentcomputers.co.uk/r...hinkpad-t22.htm
"however it is unsuitable for windows XP"
Is this true? What are my options? Can anyone with WinXP Pro vouch for it?
Many thanks in advance.
p.s. If you could provide a link to ALL (or at least major) ThinkPad models, it would be appreciated.

It's a P3 right? Then it should be fine but I would get 512mb for the laptop; maybe the memory was low. I think the website meant that it would run sluggish without sufficient memory. I used Windows XP on my P3 desktop before and it ran smooth with 512mb. BTW the link is dead.

IMHO.. the T-42 with the mobile radeon 9600 is THE BEST overall laptop on the market but that doesnt go anywhere near your budget

I dug into that website and found the link...the one's they're selling have only 128MB of Ram, and that would be something to cause issues trying to run XP. However, bump it up to maybe 384 minimum or 512 (better) and you'll have no trouble.

Re: ThinkPad recommendations Please
I had a Thinkpad T20 w/750MHz PIII and 512MB ram. It ran XP Professional o.k., but you really should have at least an 866MHz processor to run XP Pro smoothly. Just get the fastest PIII version of the T-series you can afford. And, oh yeah, don't forget to go on ebay and buy extra eraser-heads for the track point! They wear out every couple of months.
Good luck with your titanium-cased T-Series machine - every other notebook will feel like crap by comparison afterwards!
