My mod, blingGreen

A8N-SLI-Deluxe
Athlon FX-53
1GB (2x512) OCZ EL PC3200, 2-3-2
Leadtek 6600GT
Gigabyte 3D Rocket Pro Cooler with Artic Silver
ULTRA 500w X-Connect modular power supply
Pioneer Slot load DS-106 DVD player
HP CD Burner (older than dirt...)
The trick bits:
1) Flames... and lots of them! I've always liked classic harloquin flames like on custome cycles and hot rods... this was my tribute to them! I cut the inverse flame on the top window, backed it with a sanded piece of lexan, then lit each end with a 3 LED array, blue at the base of hte flam, and green at the top of the flame. The fade works nicely. The Side window was lovingly cut and sanded and filed into submission to put the flames on the window! Ran into a problem shortly after creating my *magiccal* effect, in that my case color did not lend itself to displaying the flames very well in a dimly lit LAN environment. So I cam up with the 2nd layer of sanded UV blue acrylic that is lit with UV CCFL's! Add into that the other colors that are present in the acrylic (to be explained in a second) and I got my flames lit up enough to be seen at a LAN party!
2) The flames actually flicker. I built a controller for all of the series LED's that is based off of hard drive LED activity. When the drive is at rest (off) certain LED's stay lit. When there is activity, then the other LED's light up and the first set goes off. So there is this constant play between the colors in the flames that makes the flames not only light up... but flicker and dance as well!
3) 92mm exhaust fan. Was a regular UV green fan, but I tapped 3 holes into the frame and aimed UV LED's in a triangle pattern. I tied them into the same plug used by the fan off of the motherboard, and then sleeved the connection in black so that it would not show up.
4) Custom Power cabling - I bought some UV reactive wire and some corresponding black molexes and the male or female pins needed to fill each location, and then built my own cable system. The Ultra cables are nice, but too bulky for how small my case actually was. So I gathered inspiration from another modder on another forum and redid the work in my flavor! The cable spacers are UV Green acrylic that have been tapped, drilled and added into the cable array. Kinda tricky to plan out how many cables you need, how many molexes will be used, where the spacers are going to be put in, etc... but I like the results!
5) Crushed Velvet in the bottom to give it that "pimp's couch" feel, as well as add in an areas for me to cover cables and connections! I plan on redeux'ing this later on, but for now... I like how this all lays out.
6) Bulgin Vandal switch on the front for power
7) Front intake for 80mm front fan with active LED show in the middle of it!
Let me know what you think!

Dude, thats so sweet. Its about time you posted it here. I saw it in Max PC Rig of the Month. Great job... Your right about Case Modding.. Its a Labor of Love.. Its also a Expensive Addiction..
I thought there was some kind of face on the HeatSink Fan. Inthe Mag looks like 2 blue eye's looking at ya.. LOL

If only I had the time...
...and talent.
That's incredible how you got the flames to glow like that, great idea. I'm thinking about doing some etch work on my window, but I haven't had any creative ideas for it yet.

The lighting is very tasteful. Often when there are so many different colors, it looks like a rainbow that's bleeding to death. You didn't overdo it and it looks great.

Thanks guys!
kinda funny story about the lighting. After I built the circuit board, I tested all the lights on the work bench. Everything worked out great.
I moved the lighting into the computer, and I lost the functionality on 2 strands.
1 full strand of Red LED's (that I have buried in the back, awaiting repair on my rev2 of the circuit board) and the other 2 LED's on the HSF. The HSF is supposed to have a diagonal set of LED's lit when the HD is @ rest, and the opposite corner lighting up with activity.
Uhm.. I lost the activity set... Once I get the circuit board rebuilt, the LED's will be perfect!
Etch work is fun! Espcially if you side light the acrylic with a colored LED to reflect the etch work outward!
As for posting it here, and finally posting it up... I'll have to admit, I just reactivated this account. I was here a ton in 2001, but when Alex Ross left, I was a bit put out at the "powers that be" and I left as well.
I came back here a few days ago, and realized that my account was still here... read a few posts on the forums and saw that that thigs were moving along nicely! Decided I'd better let bygones be bygones.... and worked with the staff here to update my account and get the right email addy info in so that I could log in and update my info.
My Sig had some *old* hardware in it! (My old BH5 with my OC'd celery from 300 to 450.... hehehe...)
Anyway, I"m glad to be back! Hope to contribute a bit as time permits! Working on my next mod right now... I'll likely have alog up in a few days.
See y'all arouund the forum!

That is damn sexy!
I want to see some interior pictures with the white lights on So I can see what it looks like. Hard to see inside with just the case lights and in the dark

This was really the only internal pic that came out half way decent...
and I'm not really happy about it.

I'll try to track out some more internal pics... but I remember snapping them, and not being very happy with them. We'll see if I find somethign I like, and if I do, I'll add it into the thread!

That's a great internal shot. BTW, that is really blue felt in the bottom of that thing? Doesn't harm airflow?
-
It is a type of crushed velvet... and as long as I keep it out of the way of the fan... no harm!
It does however affect heat dissapation on my CCFL invertors... I think I had one overheat on me a few weeks back. I dunno if it was heat build up or just a defective part, byt the ceramic cap next to the power plug just burst and warped the housing above and below the PCB. The invertor is currently residing right under the velvet.
I plan on relocating them in to a different location after I finish up my wife's case, or I get off my duff and replace my failing chipset heatsink/fan unit on the motherboard.

That is a great inside shot.. Nothing wrong with seeing the computer naked We like those kinds of pics
But why the velvet? I too was going to ask what the cloth material on the bottom is and why did you use that?
I personally like the little mirror people place on the bottom of the case. It adds a nice reflective surface for the lights to reflect upon.
So what was wrong with the other pictures? What are you not happy about in this one?
